Danger HNA group financial problems - Warning

Hi colleagues,

I have recently made the move to the chinese town of Fuzhou and am working for Fuzhou Airlines, a 100% subsidary of Hainan Airlines. After some delay in salary last month even this month salary has been delayed twice so far, I know of noone who received anything yet.

Therefore my genuine advice, it may look tempting to go for the big salaries in China, but I see a good chance that Fuzhou Airlines might face bankruptcy and you dont want to be caught in the middle of it.

Not talking about the different 'culture' on top of that. If you have to go to China avoid HNA group in general and Fuzhou in specific, at least for the next few month. I am writing this only because a few months ago when I made the decision to move, there was no such info available and it would have helped me so much.

All the best,
Panda

Good with advise from people with first hand information. Having said that, are you hired by agency or direct with airline? HNA group in general, despite recent media coverage conserning finances etc, is probably still one of the financially strongest airline groups in China, perhaps in the world.

With respect, you were clearly corrupted by the $25000/ month, which blinded you to the experiences offered by many here on pprune, to the realities of working in China. Perhaps not specifically Fouzhou, but I can think of long threads on CSA, Hainan ( mainline) , China contracts and agencies. Reality is it sucks.

I’m working for an archaic outfit in HK, lumbering along, from one self influcted financial faux pas to another.

Reality bites. I wish you well.

@CP I believe there are no direct airline contracts in China, it has to be via an agency. Those agencies that forget to mention that you are basically bound to the first airline you apply for.

Another thing I learned after coming here is that even the CAAC is split into different regions, one region not recognizing the documents from the other, so even if you manage to get your release letter from your company you still need to do the initial medical and ATPL again if you change province (!) Anyway, I didnt want to get into details here...

@Krone I knew what I was doing, and took a calculated risk. Of course the working conditions are a joke, my favourite is a memo "After listening to the CVR we concluded you should not talk about XXX..." but all together I thought that its worth it. Just suffer for 6 years and be done with financial problems forever. Deal.

However, it is clearly no deal when the money doesn't come. I talked to some pilots who went there before I made the move, and everyone had gotten every penny of the basic salary on time (ok sometimes they deduct a few thousand for ridicoulous so called saftey violations, even if you are not sitting at the controls(!)).

Had a single feedback indicated to me that the money might come delayed or maybe never, I wouldn't have gone. Hence this post for all those who are in the same decision making process.
