Looks like a busy time for passengers with pilots at SAS, Easyjet and the usual suspects in CDG all being pulled out in strike....

I heard that the strike just ended an hour ago. Any thought on the (dis)agreement. As a US based pilot, I don't have much knowledge of the arbitration process in Europe. Do you guys think that the Swedish SAS pilots were overreaching or not and why? It seems the Swedish public reaction is against the pilot in this case. As a US regional airline pilot, we seem to get a lot of sympathy from the general public when they learn of out work life.

The public reaction has been extremely against us. Since it's obviously a small union with limited resources, SPF (Swedish pilot union) have concentrated on negotiations instead of trying to win sympathies from the public.
After all, it's significant better conditions for new pilots with a new common payscale for all pilots.
Before it was a A and a B scale depending on your date of hire.

When you settled for the same pay increase (2.2% I think it was?) as the other SAS pilot unions, did the company give you anything in return in order to end the strike? The media just made it seem like the union caved at the demands of the company. How come the SAS pilots aren't part of the same union? How many unions are there throughout the company? And is there a different union for each owner nation? i.e 3 pilot Unions 3 cabin crew unions? To me that would seem very inefficient both for the individual unions and for the amount of energy SAS management has to put into negotiations.

CEO bonuses and pilot Pay

Good luck to the SAS pilots.

There is a European trend to worsen pilot pay and conditions.

Meanwhile what would be the bonus pay for the SAS CEO and executives, and look at the trend in your airline.

Time to fight to take back what has been taken away.

Across the world, the CEOs and executives are getting greedy when who are the ones with the responsibility of flying the airplanes ?

The CEOs bank millions, (note, I don't think they earn it) while their hard working pilots pay for their type ratings.

wtf

The media reporting was very strange in this case. Very strange. Often, media reports what both sides want during a strike, but this time there were not so many mentions of what the pilots wanted, so one professional blabber of course took advantage of this to belittle the pilots. The reports were also mostly concentrated on the poor pax who were stranded.

Stupid remarks from narrow minded retards has also done its damage. Some exclaimed that the pilot union "mocked" all people who wanted to travel and that they "intentionally wanted to ruin my vacation" - I know, stupid retards.

I am very sorry about the public reactions. I promise, I have done my tiny part to try and inform those uninformed. Hoping some reason will prevail in the end. I think you did a great job!

MrSnuggles,
It was similar during the Norwegian strike over a year ago.
Everyday you could see top managers almost in tears because the union kept them and the poor passengers hostage, and they did everything to solve the conflict with the greedy pilots, that already earned more than the CEO. On top of that union demanded governance of the company.
The Norwegian public believed every single word.

The Norwegian strike was a high point for management media manipulation, and a low point for the Unions ability to respond.

In both the external & internal media Norwegian cried crocodile tears, whilst trying to impose worse conditions than they paid to Contractors, all the while refusing to budge from this pathetic offer even during state mandated mediation.

3 Capts were taken off the roster due to their efforts to "educate" the masses, in the case of the 2 Norwegian Capts externally, in my case internally on Rednose.

NPU managed to get reinstatement for the 2 Capts in its charge, me ? "Contract Capt on leave of absence from Core FO position" , so Adios

A couple of months later, the Flight Safety Manager , who (having been ignored by NAS ) took his safety concerns to the Norwegian CAA, was rewarded for his professionalism by "unfair dismissal", which he proved in a court. I am hoping/waiting to do the same.

Management in Scandinavia is assuredly not "Scandinavian" anymore, and the Unions need to waken up to the American inspired Sharks they are now forced to deal with.

Media in Sweden has been critizised for reporting only one side of the pilot story. There was a great rebuttal in one of the daily witches we have, granted they are always much more caring than their UK counterparts...
