Norwegian winter lay offs

Hi guys,

Do you have any information if the situation with winter lay offs in Norwegian has been resolved? Did the situation repeat this winter season?

The recruitment for self funded type rating is now open, I don't know if it's not too much of a risk to apply.. Paying for TR then be laid off for 6 months during line training or shortly afterwards is not a heartwarming perspective...

Nobody was laid off. People were forced to reduce to 50% but brought back to 100% earlier than expected.

Roughly what months are you looking at for this reduction in flight hours? From NOV. - Feb or longer ?? Would not be ideal just out of a type rating trying to gain as much experience as possible and only flying 50% of the time.

For the record the pilots were made redundant last winter. It was only through the intervention of Npu and the Scandinavian media that it was later changed to 50% contracts. (Apparently they were still flying 70 hours per month for 50% pay)
Anyway this has now been the case for the last two consecutive years.

Not morally correct. I once worked for an airline where they allowed shared duties: i.e. 10/28 days duty instead of 20/28. You never did SBY's and flew max out for 10 days; all for 50% pay. After a union was introduced they managed an agreement that 50% pay meant max 450hrs per year. That was the best they could achieve; thus you could produce >50% on a weekly/monthly basis. At least they stopped the 600hrs pa for 50% pay. However, they still won because the company average was <900hrs per pilot.
