733 vs 738
Hi all,
I'm flying the 737-800 the moment and I'm now being told I'm going on the 737-300... Will this effect me when/if I ever go to another airline? Especially those who fly the NG?

These days when hiring lots of companies not only want you type rated and with experience on type also they want to have flown said type in the last 6 months I.e. Be current. So mostly yes it will affect your options in my opinion and experience.

I always had the impression that any 737 Classic experience is relevant for any 737 job - I don't recall seeing any adverts for NG experience only, perhaps they are out there. It is after all the same type rating and if one already has NG experience then there isn't even any differences training required.

Given you have flown the NG I don't see any disadvantage that you will now fly the Classic, some companies fly both simultaneously & it seems to pose no problems.
With its slightly less advanced features it is perhaps slightly harder to operate, so should be seen as a feather in your cap, not the opposite. (if the person assessing the situation truly appreciates the difference & is not just an HR pen pusher. )
Same rating same type, any company making a meal out of it is probably not worth joining.

It really doesn't matter as long as the B737-300 you're flying is EFIS equipped (which most are). EFIS is what most major airlines look for technically when assessing flying experience in a commercial environment.
Besides you already have hours on the NG so it wouldn't be an issue at all.
Stay current on an EFIS equipped commercial aircraft and there's no need to sweat about it!

Unless you want to go to an Asian, Indian or Middle Eastern airline, in which case they will probably not only require you current in the NG but current in their colour scheme, i.e Must have flown a white/blue/green one in the last 90 days.
Sure, if you can fly a 300 you can fly an 800 and vice versa (Boeing went to great pains to ensure this would be so) but try telling some anal retentives!
