It often works the other way around, i.e. the individual extends in service to meet airline requirement. The other point, MP has been opened up something like 3 times in the past decade. Its not constantly available and is typically opened to meet airline requirement for significant recruitment drive.

I would like to see what would happen if you had your exit availability extended by 6, even 12 months, overnight with no warning, with the impact of a 25% pay cut during notice period.
