VirginAus to Ryanair
Any thoughts on a Virgin Australia 73 Capt going to Ryanair for a year or two would be appreciated. Am an Australian with Irish passport.

I don't know your personal circumstances, but unless you've lost your job at Virgin Australia, you'd be mad to swap that for Ryanair, IMHO. I am LHS at Ryanair, UK based, contractor.
Good luck whatever you decide!

I will swap with you!! I am aussie captain in ryanair and will swap your job in a heartbeat!
it is nice doing 40 odd destinations in europe but that doesn't make a bit of difference when you get to go home and have a bbq with family in a nice warm economically stable country. take some leave and visit then go back to aus and enjoy the sunshine!!

Being an Aussie working in EU, I couldnt agree more with captaining... In your situation, the best thing would be to stay at Vaus... Unless of course you mean you would like to travel and take LWOP.

If you get to go back to LHS in Vaus afterwards, go for it - though I'd suggest looking ANYWHERE other than Ryanair- maybe one of the ACMI charter contractors?
You'll love the European flying- a WHOLE different ballgame than Aus, but you won't want to serve out your carreer working for O'leary.

The guy does not want a career in Ryanair and has probably had more BBQ this week than you and I get in a lifetime. Give him a break and provide some useful information. Ryanair is one of the largest and most successful carriers in Europe. Let's start with that.

If you are taking LWOP it can work well as the roster will allow you to explore Europe on your off days. A few guys from QF and NZ have done just that. That being said the key is LWOP I would ensure you keep your options open enabling you to head back to VAus when you get tired of FR which will happen.

If you decide to come make sure you get a base where their agency contract is legal if you don't want to ruin your life for a few months of European flying.
