Air China Cargo 747 Captain

Hello, itīs been a while that I see advertised in a few contract agencies that they are looking for direct entry captains for the Air China cargo 747 WITHOUT type rating and only requiring 800 PIC 737 time (which I would qualified). Anyone knows if there is a catch? They advertise a really high salary of $250.0000. Any info??

Thanks!

The contract itself is fine and having flown in China I definitely think it's a good experience, but there are snags to any China position.

Most will take 3 months at least from your initial application before you start work. Chinese immigration law is a pain to deal with. The medical you have to do is very probing and not very clothed. Also they make you sit a pass/fail Chinese ATPL exam that if you fail means that can't apply again for around 3-6 months.
There is also a very high chop rate for people that apply to China as the Chinese have that mentality that they will only hire 10% of people they put forward as they want to make it look like they have really high flight standards.

It is definitely worth a go however if you can get a contract it is a lot of money and if they are giving you a type rating, you can't really ask for more. I would just say keep you options open while your applying.

I looked into a similar contract with Air China but a few colleagues warned me about what actually happens as opposed to what was advertised.

Advertised: A330 NTR Captain based in Sydney

Actual (after a lot of digging) A330 'Captain' but flying in the RHS, based in Beijing for a minimum of one year, possibly 2, but in any event a non determined period until the Chinese deemed you suitable for the LHS and then you could apply for what was available.

They call you Captain (J Captain) but actually you are a Senior FO and you dont log any pic hours, I guess same goes with the NTR 747 Captain.

There is good money being paid in many other places where you will actually do the work they hired you for, if they mislead you in something so elemental, what else would they lie to you about.
