Big requirement: acting/drama skills so that you can make an a$$ of yourself on command...

Once on the 777, you must acknowledge that you are on a lower level of the aviation caste system and always bow to any 787 pilots (both Capt and FO).

If you have a prior aviation working experience within India, I am sure you would know better than to apply for that advert. Air India has been a joke for quite some time now.

What better options were u looking for in AI ?

You would probably be sent to the ATRs/CRJs cos the IA guys would then be able to upgrade to 777/787s

As things stand, if you're applying as a F/O, AI has a sorry history of mistreating their young first officers in the name of "authority gradient". Quite a load of BS, if you ask me. Flying is never enjoyable unless the cockpit environment is peaceful and friendly. Add it to the fact that besides 5-6-whatever months of delay in wages, besides no leave for the past few years for the crew, as I have been given to understand, and the friction between the two warring unions and the management, would make it a very inhospitable working environment. Interestingly, Air India has recently been known to state that they are looking to cut their wage bills. So I guess even the pay is gonna suck too, on their new contract's terms and conditions.

If you are joining as a Commander, besides my earlier points of a potential lower-than-usual pay and no leaves being granted etc etc, other negative points will be no upgradation to TRI/TRE for a LONG time (probably never). Internal politics makes it sure that only the top dogs (VIP sons and daughters) get that rating. Also, their FSD is known to victimise pilots. They have put arbitary limits on certain flight safety issues and pressurize pilots, and from what I know, it resulted in the unfortunate AIX accident not too long ago. Thus you are going to feel the pressure as the PIC.

Oh and I'm not sure about what aircraft you want to apply on. If it is on the 737, you will be treated as an outcast for some reason. My apologies if I hurt any sentiments, but it appears as if Indians never grew out of their Middle-age caste systems. I'm very sorry about it, as I personally feel that all planes are beautiful to fly and I find no reason to explain why they treat their 737 pilots that way. On the other hand, if you are thinking of applying on the 777, get ready for the local aviation authority's flight time/duty dispensations and fly like a pig all day. Health-wise, doing so many ULR flights is going to destroy your body in the long term. The airline has still not incorporated international health related standards/norms and procedures with respect to their long haul flights. Most airlines that still operate them do not let their crew operate more than 2 of those in a month. In AI, well...you get the picture, right? Either way, it's a very sorry airline to work for.
