Reminds one of Nero fiddling while Rome burnt.
These Pilots are bothered about career progression when there could be no career left with AI very soon. The govt has pumped in 30,000 cr of tax payers money to rescue this behemoth. And look at the petty attitude of its flt deck employees.
This airline was once its countries' national pride. Now it's a national shame!

New toy...

The pilots demands that 'justify' their attitude coudn't be more childish: they are complaining about the most junior ones going to the new toy!
Looks like they are senior B777 Capts, enjoying already a good roster, flying top equipment and seeking 'career progression'...
From the adminstrative stand point makes a lot of sense send the domestic pilots to 787, avoiding the costs of two transitions: one to satisfy the 777 guys who want to go to 787 and other for the domestic guys replacing them on the 777.

This kind of demand only demoralizes our profession as a group and as individuals.
Shame on these AI pilots!
Behaving like ridicule primadonnas...

Maybe they just want the company to stick to a well established seniority system. Not saying that I agree with such a system. However would everyone here be criticizing the pilots if it were Lufthansa or BA pilots out on strike to stop new pilots were jumping straight into the 380 or 787 instead of following the seniority system?

Errr BA have recruited directly onto the widebody in the past... They let people where they want to go.

Air India pilots are more like spoilt children than Airline Pilots.

Lufthansa recruited onto the A300 fleet right out of flight school and still recruits directly onto the MD11 if any external recruits are taken. Just need 1000 hours minimum.

Anyway, 777 and 787 are on a common typerating and mixed flying of both types is perfectly possible and requires a lot less training than training new guys, but thats a decision any airline has to make wether they want to use that possibility or not.

These Air India "Chuck Yeager" pilots should go straight to Bollywood. They should monetize their overly-dramatic flair...

I was unaware that the caste system was alive and well in Indian aviation? Simply ridiculous. We all read that article a few months back about how the sons/daughters of senior 777 pilots were planning on 787 type ratings. How do you say "severe nepotism" in Hindi? Sure, it is a cultural thing.

I guess the Indian Airlines Airbus pilots don't have the skill to fly a highly-automated 787. I wonder how those sacked AI pilots feel now? Wonder if EK or QR would even bother with them given their job-related firings?

IVER

Straight to the point.

There's a widespread notion among indian pilots (of course a lot of them are mature, excellent professionals) that they are the God gift to Aviation, behave like Shah Ruh Kahns*, to whom nothing can be denied.
Lot's of unprofessional attitudes generates some incredible histories making the headlines from time to time...

* sort of indian Brad Pitt, with the local dose of gaudy tackiness.

Waaaaa!!!! Waaaa!!!! I want my 787!!!! Waaaa!!!!

I'm gonna throw tantrums and then hold my breath until you give me my 787 type rating!!!!!

That just about sums it all up to the rest of the world. Spoiled brats given 10 billion dollars to save a decaying white elephant from death... and what do the tax payers get in return???? spoiled little children who deserve to have their toys taken away from them until they learn how to behave with the adults.

They had a merger like six years ago right. Was there not some arbitration or mediated seniority list at the the time with rules for this kind of event? Been to India so not much would surprise me but either thre is more to the story or these guy are just not to smart. This really shows why they need to get some outside management to bring them into the 21 st century .

CAPTJINS

One of your best posts ever!

To be seen if the government will have the balls to really keep these cheap agitators out, given their very strong connections.
Few years ago Jet Airways was put on it's knees for similar examples of integrity of such kind of people.
