Retirement Lump Sum

Does anyone know the average lump sum Delta pilots receive upon retiring? I have heard rumors that it is not near as much as AA pilots, and I think management needs to make a change.

Not a clue but I was speaking with a very old friend of mine the other day who lives in Philadelphia. He told me that in the States today you need $5,000,000 in order to be able to retire.

"Need"..? Although I see what you mean that statement would make it impossible for almost all Americans to retire.... I guess the key here is "how" and "when" you want to retire...?

I found some statistics showing that 43% of Americans have LESS than $10K in retirement savings.

I asked the same guy whether having liquid assets of $100 million qualified as being seriously wealthy. Oh no, he replied, you need $5 million just to retire. That's the context. I guess that tales all pilots other than Travolta out of the loop.

That's pretty much the way I had it calculated. Such a long way still to go!
