Qantas offer redundancies to crews and pilots
A bad day for crews of Australias Qantas airlines as reports come through that they have been offered voluntary redundancies ,7000 cabin crew and rumoured pilots have the oppurtunity to leave the major airline while its expected that forced redundancies will have to take place in the near future as Qantas looks to decrease its planned growth on domestic flights from 14 to 8 percent and on international routes, 10 to 7 percent.
In April, Qantas raised fuel surcharges on international routes for the third time this year and lifted fares on domestic routes.
A sad day indeed.

"Qantas looks to decrease its planned growth on domestic flights from 14 to 8 percent and on international routes, 10 to 7 percent." Why would they have to lay off people since there's still growth?....... not much sense in this post. Either this tread is bogged down or there's something fishy going on at Quangaroo airlines....

It'll probably be along the lines of the three Alliances. Within those alliances there will be three or four companies doing the vast majority of long-haul flights and the rest is feeding that.
My guess would be in 10 years you want to be working for:
-Lufthansa
-Delta
-Air France / KLM
-BA / Iberia
-American
And then maybe some airline from the middle/far east. But that remains labour unfriendly in the foreseeable future.
The rest of all the majors will be major-feeders in my view. Think Alitalia, SR, SAS, even United or Continental.

Definitely not. I`m just saying that you probably wouldn`t want to work there, because it`s a very labour-unfriendly environment.
But hey, that`s for everyone to decide for themselves

I think Air China, Cathay, Singapore, Korean Air et al will eventually buy some of those airlines you mentioned and they will then become labour-unfriendly as well
