...but don't hold your breath for that...
Firstly it's highly hypothetical.
Secondly, there's a signed agreement signed between EK and SIA that no one will take workforce from each other...
The one's really fed up of the sand pit will have to wait some time more.

By the way, there is a bunch of ex-SQ guys on QR, if they want to turn around is there also any agreement?
Aviation is a jungle, there are no rules and only the strong (airlines) survive ... always!
Give me a good package and I crossover today. No regrets.

EK has guys selected during the last round of hiring and just recently 1 EK777 Capt left to join SQ Cargo. Same goes for EK, they have had DEC from SIA.

Sounds to me like one of two things.
1) EK HR posting on prune to say there is such a policy to prevent loosing pilots.
2) Some other pilots with an interest in SQ trying to stop high time 777 Captains from applying ( therebye increasing their chances)
We'll see who is right. I know of a few that have moved either way , so that invalidates the alleged policy to date. Why on earth would competitors care about such a policy. Quite the opposite it would make sense to take your competitors pilots . Alas we will see.
As for the " internal source at SQ". Same rule applies. Perhaps an SQ guy who has it in his interest if SQ cannot find experienced people.
Now back to the origonal rumour. Are SQ hiring on the 777 , any news gents ?

So if I understand this correct, there is no point in applying for them?
Surely they cant survive in only employing cadetts! DEC I can understand if they are not so keen on but a job on the 777 or 330? Based in Sing I guess.
Do most new entrants go through cargo?
Thanks for all info gents

The simple answer is: Cargo hires for Cargo...Mainline hires for Mainline. The only crossover is from Mainline to Cargo is at FIRST year pay...in other words, a Mainline pilot MAY join Cargo to fly past 60 but at a reduced salary and allowances, and possibly at local terms. No allowances like the contract guys get. The two operations are separarate and no one will ever go from Cargo to Mainline...they are considered a lower form of SQ employee by many...although when the mainline pilots were allowed to operate Cargo flight they sure enjoyed taking the best flying! As far a any sort of "no poaching" rule...never heard of it and it's rumour at best, SQC will take a new DEC any day before renewing a senior (and more expensive) expat! It's all about keeping costs down...it was fun while it lasted a few years back but now? Much different place I hear.

No such agreement between EK and SIA. Absolute bollocks.
SIA mainline will need no new hires since the interest from locals in working after 62 is overwhelming. The percentage of expats is reducing every year and is now down to about 6%.
SIA Cargo on the other hand is hiring, but only DEC. No expat FO:s. Contract for DEC:s is about 10% better than the FO contract in EK and that's mostly due to the decline in the USD. Same T&C:s in SIA Cargo now as in 2005...
If you are an FO there's absolutely no question where you should go.

Well, you might just wish to check that again. SQ has been investing in their pilots' training and the wheel spins pretty smoothly for the last decade or so. And Patty is absolutely right that the numbers of expats are reducing (well, I did have to move north when my time came few years back).
For those who are still there, was told that they intend to eventually only hire Expats on LOCAL contracts. So be prepared to sacrifice your lifestyle if you have couple of school going kids.
