There will never be a shortage of Cadet FO's, that is for sure.
The main issue is Commanders. In my company we are all flying nearly 100hrs per month and still they keep calling us to work in off days.

It's becoming a fact if you have the rating.
Got improved T&C's offered today from an agency who put in such a cheeky offer first time round it was offensive. Out of the blue an un-requested e-mail today of new T&C's were offered, increasing the training salary by 66% and the monthly salary more than doubled to something more acceptable. This to me says shortage.

there will be a shortage of cadet FO's. There won't be a shortage of Low costs recruiting them and unscrupulous pay to fly schemes, but what there is (and will be from now on) a shortage off is finance for these schemes. Anyone that thinks they can march into their bank and get an unsecured loan for training or a type rating is kidding themselves.
Anyone that thinks that remortgaging to cover it also needs to consider that mortgaging over 75% is nigh on impossible these days, and with property prices falling considerably further and inflation and interest rates around the corner, ain't gonna be easy any time soon.
