1st Day DLR summary
Hello,
I am invited on 21-01-2010 to Hamburg to take the DLR assessment.
Could somebody describe how the day looks like?
Are you able to choose which CBTs you do first or the sequence is fixed?
What exact subjects are tested? Can you confirm. how is it this year for LHI?
Are the ATPL questions also on the first day?
I have the Thiele Test Training software (in German) - all the subjects are the same, even more is added - together with the road building and a simple simulator. I was wondering if this could also help in preparations, since the software is from 2003.
congratulations for those who already passed, for me it is quite impossible to make such an impressive score!
Best wishes for everyone

Summary of DLR day one.
Thanks guys,
I've looked through the thread, yet I would much appreciate if someone could confirm how the first day of DLR screening looks like. There is a lot of ambiguous information and some parts may be misleading.
Cheers

Hi guys,
Just got back form the DLR. Motel one and Ibis hotel. Walking distance from the airport 10-15 min. Same goes from the hotel to the DLR.
Most of the guys wore a suit and a tie. I don t think it is necessary. You don t even see LH stuff. Just the DLR.
Regarding the test:
2 in a row, followed by 10 min break. At around 12 o clock, one hour lunch break. We ve finished at 1530.
VMC
Greater number of symbols as in the cbt, Much harder. 2 back is ok, but the others....
CUBE
It starts real slow and than it progresses to a little bit less than on a level 3 (cbt). Easier
ATPL
Same as on pprune. So do not bother with the rest. Easy.
RMS
pretty much the same as the cbt
OWT
Harder. The clocks are bigger and it s hard to see them all from that distance. I mean you have to seat close enough to touch the screen. And they disappear quite quickly. (I would say between level 2 and 3.)
KRN
10 audio and 10 visual questions. Harder.
SKT
The same. It s just that you have to touch the screen with your hand so you are blocking the view at the same time. Be careful with your hand and it should be ok.
VLR
Same as the CBT
ENS
Same.
MIC
nothing much to tell. You get familiar and train there.
That is all folks.
GOOD LUCK to you all,
a

For RMS try to group the numbers into groups of 6. I mean, remember 6 then move on and build another 6. This way I find I get an average of 5-6 each test.
For ROT, as mentioned earlier in this thread, a good tip is; rather than thinking of a red cross on the cube try to imagine a pencil sticking out of the cube instead! This also works for me.
The above "tips" work for me they may not work for you but you can give them ago!
Good luck

remember it's all about practise...
My ROT and RMS scores were initially way down at levels below those quoted by those who have had success in assessment. I was worried but after 3weeks practice the scores are starting to creep up to the levels where they should be.
Best of luck.

I did the DLR test on 5/11, and yesterday I received the message I passed!
These were my scores 1 day before the test:
ENS: 99%
KRN: lvl2= 100% lvl3= 96%
OWT: lvl2= 99% lvl3= 94%
RMS: lvl3= 30%
ROT: lvl2= 100% lvl3= 80%
SKT: lvl3= 100%
VLR: lvl3= 100%
VMC: lvl3= 81%
For RMS it helped for me to memorize in groups of 4. It also helped for me to memorize the numbers as year numbers, for example combinations like 87 (my birthyear), are more easy to remember. And offcourse if there are combinations like 4545, you have to be very concentrated on the numbers following, because these are 'presents'. I thought all the tests were more difficult than the CBT's, so don't be discouraged during the test, but keep doing your best!
All I can say is practise, practise, practise..
Good luck to you all!
