2010-2011 pilot requirements and re-cap on Farnborough Airshow 2010

With Pprune being a rumour forum, be interesting to know peoples opinions on how things have been panning out recently.

As previously posted heard a good number (approx 90) SFO's from easyjet heading off to the middle east.

British Airways apparently waiting to resolve cabin crew issue with Unite before they are going to recruit for flight deck again.

Easyjet having this mass exodus......and Ryanair I've heard too - all heading off to the middle east.

Then the FlyBe order for the embraers at this years airshow.
What are existing plans for FlyBe? Move Dash 8 crew onto the E-jets and recruit for the dash?

All positive news for the UK job market to get things moving again?

Also heard that the smaller regional turbo-prop operators are looking to recruit soon too.

Anyone willing to add to this...........???

Make the hiring minimums require more total time, that way we can stop all the kids from draining their rich parents bank accounts, and get back the core group of young professionals that are willing to work their way up the later. Then we will see some talent come back into the right seat that is motivated, and not crying that they are not captains with only 2 or 3 years in the right seat under their belts. Granted that will never happen, you have to many accounts on the golf course with the FAA, EASA, and CAA these days, we pilots were replaced when we finally could not pay our green fees any longer.

My personal opinion is that the airlines won't know what to do until the Government decides on where the public sector cuts are going to come from in other words whether they cuts will be largely staff based redundancies or other costs. If it is staff based pay cuts and redundancies there will be fewer people wanting or able to afford to travel in greater numbers needing capacity expansion. If the cuts come from other savings we might be alright. Parliament rises today, and will not be in session again until late October so no real decisions will be taken until after The Queen's Speech in November so I expect that the airlines may well chose to maintain their position through to next year. Unfortunately I think that means a small number of pilots recruited on Summer only contracts as this year.

As I was made redundant 18 months ago I hope that my assessment is wrong!

I am presently working in a northern flying school and in the past month I have seen several signs of movement.
One instructor has just paid his £30000 and is off to Ryan Air.
Another has just got an email from Luxair restarting his assessment process after 18 months on hold.
A third has just recieved 2 emails from netjets asking if he is available for recall.
The forth has just started part time for an air taxi company in southern England.

Only my view but things do feel alot more positive.

Regards.

Beensleepin,

2 emails from NetJets asking about a recall - more information please! The general consensus in the NJE 'crewroom' is no recalls until 2011!! Are you sure that is not the return expected after being on jobshare for 1 year?

Thanks & curious,

MB

All I know is the guy got an email asking if he was available for recall i.e. he was not bonded or tied in some other way to another company. He replied that he was available. Then a couple of days later he got another email asking if he was sure, to which he again answered yes. He has no more details. Netjets might just be updating their record who knows, I don't and he doesn't. I'm just passing on the info.

Regards

Sounds like a misunderstanding or incorrect use of the word Recall which is certainly not on the cards at NJE - unless I am hugely mistaken ... which will be nice as I will enjoy going back onto full salary again.

Things do seem to be picking up. At my club we have had the following since december 09:

4 guys recruited with loganair to fly saab

1 guy to ryanair

1 guy to jet2

There is a few captains that I know and they have advised me that apparently Flybe intend to get rid of the majority if not all of the dash 8 fleet.

Oh and loganair are going to be recruiting around october/november for FO's to fly the saab...keep an eye on the web site.

And bit of interesting 'rumour' I heard is that BA are going to recruit in december/january??????

Thanks Binsleepen, just as suprised as Hollingsworth to read the company might be 'recalling' individuals. I hope for your friend's sake he will be back soon.

Cheers,

I would be massively suprised if there is any wiff of recalls at NJE this year or for the next 12-18 months (but I do see a fair number of people moving on when things improve).

Hollingworthp..............get in line buddy.

At the moment, there is no truth is this rumour as BA will not make any decisions until Nov/Dec - However, (the good news is) BA are intending to recruit next year, so all in all, you may not be a million miles away! I guess they have to with all the new 787/380s being delivered 2012/13
