Joint CLAs for cockpit and other airline employees

Dear fellow PPRuNers.

The union I am a member of has recently found itself in a very awkward position. Our government, which happens to be our owner too, has forced us into negotiations about new joint collective labour agreement with every other union - representing, cabin, maintenance, sales & marketing, administration etc.

IFALPA protested on our behalf, yet to no avail. Talks have pretty much broken down after mech & ground staff unions signed the contract and our beloved company claimed that FTL limitations signed by them are valid for cockpit and cabin too.

So I wonder whether joint CLAs are norm in the world today or, as I suspect, we're spearheading the change for worse yet again.

I'd especially like to hear from our German colleagues, as it was claimed by a certain govt official that IAW our labour law, only legal way for us was that we have single CLA for the entire company and that our labour law is a copy of German's one. Methinks that this is a large pile of , yet I'd like to have my opinion verified.

Your replies are much appreciated.

The only example I know of a single CLA for all of the employees is Aeroflot.

Now, having said that, I presume it is very well possible to have a single umbrella CLA with very different sub-chapters for every employee-group.

German labour law allows for several different collective labour agreements in one company. In fact that is the norm in all airlines at the moment (one for pilots/FEs, one for cabin crew, another one for ground staff). However in most of germany the CLAs are indeed for the whole company or even all companies of a certain type or within a certain region. Some of that is the result of huge unions representing a very wide range of job-types. However pilots are only represented by one union which does not represent any other job type (well, theoretically flight engineers, but those have sadly vanished). That union is Vereinigung Cockpit e.V., you can get into contact with them via Vereinigung Cockpit e.V. :Home or via IFALPA/ECA.
