Long Haul Captain direct from Long Haul First Officer.
QF partially implemented such a scheme about 7 or 8 years ago. Basically, they banned 'vertical promotion' on the 744. So, to get any promotion, crew at all ranks had to move off the 744 (but they could go to the 747, 767, 737, and 330). The reason was the very limited sectors available on the 744. Presumably the same thing will apply on the 380.

Air France do not limit the number of aircraft types you can bid in your career.
However, to reduce training costs, after each new type rating you must stay on this type for a duration called "amortization" (the first "amortization" is 4 years, the 2nd 4 years 1/2, the 3rd 5 years, etc.).
At the end of your career, you can't bid for a last type rating if you have not the time to "amortize" it before you retire.
Hence pilots who started their Air France career on late may be unauthorized to bid for a LH LHS.
With the new rule (SH LHS mandatory before LH LHS) + reduction of SH fleet , many pilots may be concerned...
