Hi there
I'm in the same boat as you (though with 1500 hours). About to be made redundant from medium TP job. I've contacted every B1900 operator I can think of and have gotten no where.....in fact only a few have even responded to my calls/e-mails. Even so, I think buying a rating really is too big a risk. I would only consider it if there were a concrete job offer at the end of it and even then I'd only do it with the redundancy pay off..... wouldn't use my own money.
Chin up, keep at it. Something will come up eventually.

If you want some guidance from an old fart who has been in this business for a long time then here we go.
Despite what a lot of folks out there don't seem to realise, getting into Ryanair is not all about money (as you have admitted in your first paragraph when you tell us that they have turned you down).
As far as I am aware, Ryanair are the only game in town right now.
So why would you want to spend £30-odd thousand pounds getting a 737 rating to work for exactly who else?
Hard as it might seem, there are hundreds of experienced 737/757/767 rated pilots out there out of work and also looking for jobs. That is a very hard fact that you simply have to get your head around. What can you offer that they can't?
I reckon that you should look for TP work anywhere in the world for the next couple of years until this mess sorts itself out. It was not long ago that I saw adverts for Jetstream crews in Romania.
If you could get that, it would be very illuminating and also very interesting. The ladies are quite beautiful and the cost of living is quite low.
I can well remember being out of work as a DC-10 captain for over a year when Laker went down the tubes. I applied for every job in the world from BN Islander upwards and sent out 316 CVs. I got less than 10 replies and no job offers.
Sorry to be so negative but at least you might find my advice to be practical.

There are an unknown number of guys/girls with a B737 rating with many 1000,s of hrs following the demise of sterling,xl, futura etc all looking for work. Even if you do some kind of deal and clock up a few hundred hrs (like a ryanair deal even?) how will that help you?. Sooner or later you will want to move on/return to the UK and you will be up against these pilots. Be patient. We are all in this together.
from climbto350.com... Must be worth a punt if you=ve got dual citizenship as you state. Good luck.

Don't do em any favors, wait it out. Saying that, there's always a flying gig in the US if you look around and are mobile. Night freight, air taxi, instruction, etc. Hang in there, better days in a coupla years if ur young.

Thanks chaps! I really appreciate all of the helpful advice. I've decided to sit it out. As I previously said, I abhor the idea of paying to work and thanks to a couple of very helpful guys on this forum I have a few trails to follow up which might hopefully lead to something.
To other guys in a similar position, and I know there are many, just taking some time to think really is the best thing to do. I've been way too focused on getting back into the RHS as soon as possible, I took a few days holiday earlier this week and sat back and had a serious think about things, it did me the world of good and gave me clarity on the situation. If you've done well enough to gain employment in this industry once, you've already proven that you meet the grade, you don't need to folk out £30k+ extra to prove that all over again.
