ID90 tickets

Hi there - long shot I know, but if you don't ask you don't get....

As a non-airline employee, is there any way of playing the system to get ID90 etc tickets without being a current/past employee?

Cheers

Nick

Some airlines may have agreements with their staff that friends & family can travel on ID90 tkts. Usually a limited number of people for a limited number of flights per year.

So if you ain't pally with anyone in the industry, tough. You pay full price like everyone else.

Touchdown seem to get some pretty good offers and deals for people working on the fringes of aviation.

Getting concessions

BA279,
There is another way. Marry someone with concessions or find a friend in the business. Seeing your location, if you are young there are lots of nice girls at the business park. If you are old, get one of kids to work for an airline.

As has been said, ID90s are great value for money but you'll only get them if you work in the industry and then usually only if work for an airline or in ATC, (although there are some exceptions to that).
The disadvatage is that you've got to be very flexible and be prepared to be stuck at any given location if there are more paying punters than seats for you, (I was marooned in Mahe for 3 days more than I'd bargained for - it was hell).

Touchdown do some good deals but you still need an employers letter of authority proving that you do work in the industry (and they do check the authenticity of it at random).

Touchdown and similar offer some reasonable, but far from good, deals compared to normal travel agencies. However when you consider that the average travel agency is as much use as a fart in a thunderstorm (I was recently told in a UK high street agency that a special they advertised in their window for LON - CPT was on China Airlines ..... and then when I queried that, that there were no direct flights on that route), this is not saying much.

Judicious research on the internet, using sites such as Kayak and Skyscanner, or sometimes carriers' websites, will usually come up with a better deal.

We gave up using ID90's years ago, just not worth the aggravation and additional expenses when not able to board, and in most cases being treated like scum by check in staff.

As others have mentioned you always need to be flexible. Touchdown have some amazing deals (usually outside of school holidays). For example last year we spent a week skiing in Val d'Isere on a full Mark Warner package...Touchdown price: £370pp Mark Warner Price: £1200pp

Another useless thread, a non airline employee asking how he can get a ticket that is available only to airline staff. I don't work for a bank, any chance of me getting a staff discount on my bank loan?
If you want staff discount, get a job in the industry!!!
Mods, come on, do your job and remove stupid threads like this one.

As an aside (apologies for the thread hijack), but how does one actually go about getting hold of ID90's?

I fly for an IATA member and would be interested in taking advantage of this system. However, are ID90's only usually available for the carrier which you work for?

Many thanks,
BSR

Depends on which carrier you work for. You need to check with your staff travel department, they will hold a list of which other carriers you and your nominees can use ID90's on.

Travel Industry Services is another good site to have a look at for good industry deals.

You'll only get a definitive answer by asking someone at your own workplace, but FWIW

1. As far as I know for ID90's you have to go through your own airline's staff travel department/office/admin. I'm not sure there's any other way of obtaining them - anyone else know for certain?

2. Most of the major scheduled outfits have some form of reciprocal staff travel arrangement with the other major carriers....

PS.. lexxity beat me to

ASFKAP, I would have taken more notice of your post if it weren't for the fact that half of the threads you have started on "PPRUNE" have been questions on computers. I think you are on the wrong forum mate!
Anyway, I am pleased to see the thread seems to have moved into sensible discusion about ID90's between qualifing members.

Nope, anyone, could even be you

But you'll have to wait a few months, I can only switch travel partners every so often

easy don't have any agreements which is a real shame, it smarts a bit when you have to pay pretty much full fare when you work in the industry.

BA employees and ex employees can get you Hotlines but you have to pay them and you cant put them on your own credit card. They are as firm as firm can be!!! They are not sby like 90 and 100% are.

Virgin also have a "mates" tickets scheme, so if you know anyone in either of those airlines you should ask them. I think that they are firm as well.

What i cant understand if people who dont work in the industry can get id 90 tickets then why doesnt BALPA and these sort of unions have a system in palce to give us interline deals with airlines, might also attract more people to join BALPA and bring in more money for them.
