Onur Air has previously been banned from parts of the European Union.

Its reputation is SH1T. As for the facts, I don't know.

Only take this position if you're desperate.

10 years ago coming through the crew channel in Brussels myself & my co-pilot both stood transfixed as the most unbelievable bevvy of beauties slid by.
Well we had to ask. . . .it was Onur Air.

Don't know if it is still the same, but that wouldn't have any influence on your decision anyway I am sure.

I've heard they have a rubbish reputation too!
Their safety record is sh*t:
  • Onur Air were temporarily suspended from taking off or landing in France, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Germany for alleged safety breaches and the alleged need to tighten security standards. The airline denies all allegations, but 40,000 passengers were left grounded as a result. Talks were held with the Dutch aviation authorities. After the airline and the Dutch aviation authorities reached an agreement, the ban was lifted and the airline was allowed to fly to the Netherlands again. Onur Air has threatened to sue the Dutch government because of alleged losses after its banishment, estimating their loss is at least 60 million euro of which they will claim €15 million. The Dutch government refused to reimburse them and questioned whether Onur Air has taken the banishment seriously and reviewed the safety of their aircraft. On October 29, 2007, the final court ruled that, although on false grounds, the temporary suspension was legal, and Onur Air was to receive no compensation.
  • On July 18, 2006 there was an incident where the tail of an Airbus A 321 aircraft hit the runway during landing, damaging the pressurized passenger cabin.
  • On August 10, 2006 there was an incident on the flight from Paris to Bodrum, reportedly a window in the cockpit suffered a malfunction. As a result the plane flew at reduced altitude for over 2 hours and was re-routed to Istanbul.
  • On 15 September 2006, a pilot refused to fly an Onur Air flight, telling passengers that the plane was unsafe. This led to a reported 'mini-riot' on the plane.
  • On January 1, 2007 an incident occurred whereby the cargo hold door of a McDonnell Douglas MD-88 aircraft burst open during flight. This was caused by a rapid depressurisation in the cabin. Luggage spilled onto the Runway when it touched down at Istanbul.
  • On August 4, 2007 An Airbus A300-605R aircraft (Reg:TC-OAO) diverted to Belgrade en-route from Manchester to Antalya due to an undisclosed technical fault. No injuries were reported.
  • On September 7, 2007 An Airbus A 321 aircraft lost cabin pressure on a Dalaman-Birmingham flight and the plane had to make an emergency landing to Istanbul airport. Passengers also reported smoke coming from the left engine as it landed at Istanbul. Some passengers claim that their air masks on A321 did not work and one passenger kept a piece of one that had fallen apart completely. Onur Air failed to make any explanation to passengers.[
  • On May 1, 2008 an Onur Air aircraft taking off from Antalya made an emergency landing back at the airport.. Shortly after takeoff, passengers reported a loud noise and the aircraft started to sink to the ground. The pilot dumped most of the fuel over water and landed back at Antalya. No one was hurt in the incident, although several passengers were treated for emotional distress. The aircraft had 166 passengers onboard, most of which were Dutch tourists returning to Holland.

Onur Air have a VERY bad reputation ...

About 2 years ago (was all over the media at the time), a German contract captain made a PA to the passengers telling them that in his opinion, the aircraft was unsafe to fly, and that they should get off. He then left the aircraft and the employment of Onur Air ...

If you've got other options ....

That was some nice "copy paste" work form Wikipedia, ScottAitken

But you forgot a major incident in the Netherlands:

On june 17 2003 an MD-88 overrun the runway at Groningen airport at take-off. This was due to the decision of the captain to abort T/O at a very late stage in the T/O run.

Twice this idiot ignored a warning signal that the trimsetting was wrong. When the nose wouldn't rise he aborted. All survived luckily...

Don't worry, just think of the company you will have when you are stuck in the hotel waiting for it to be fixed

My Thanks to all!

Hello and thanks to all that responded to my Onur Air inquiry.

I did have all the website info that was so kindly posted (aside of the bevy of beauties info ...too funny).

It seems that they have suffered from some incidents that are a combination of maintenance and experience issues.

Can't say I have decided yet. Found a travel site that had a mix of customer feedback from the last couple years. Mostly cabin and service issues but the worst were of long delays on charter ops. I ran into a lot of these types issues in the crumbling days of my last carrier (ATA)

Might explore it further.

Suffering from Jurrassic jet syndrome and the "glass wall" looking for work. Too many years on old tech widbodies and now a new Airbus type rating with no time in type. Can't find work!

My thanks to all!!!

Angel Onur Air

For your information TriStrPlt would suggest you try Tiger Airways in Changi Airport in Singapore, they are operating A320 aircraft and are growing rapidly. They are owned by the following combination, The Ryan family (Ryanair)//Tamesk Investors//and I think Singapore Airlines//and David Bonderman of Texas Pacific Corp out of Dallas Fort Worth.

They are a well financed outfit with a bright secure future. Its the least I can do for a fellow American. GOOD LUCK.
