With this issue of taxing our duty pay looming I was trying to find a thread that I thought was labelled HRMC or similar, but after searching a great deal this morning I can't find it. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

This is not good! They are on to us big time. Let's hope the unions can come up with something to fend them off.

As for Ryanair their tax on sector pay is as far away from any tax law known to man they may as well just pay the crew cash in hand, what they actualy do is drop a cheque in the crews drop file with no pay slip to go with it. So it's anyones guess how much tax is or is NOT given to HMRC.

We all know that sector pay is a tax dodge....times up

Nobody 'dodges' anything, we are paid and we pay tax after allowances etc. have been taken into acccount.

Then the government spends it very wisely on anything they see fit.

Thats their job.

My accountants job is to see he earns his fee.

If I don't pay enough they will ask for it. If I pay too much they will pay it back.

You don't know what you are talking about. An easjet capt earns £100 a day in sector pay and a proportion of this is tax free. Why? how can you spend 100 quid a day on a couple of 25min turnarounds with crew food and drink provided, as well as car parking and uniform costs all given by the company? It's a nice tax friendly way for the company to pay you more money. An Fo gets half this amount but exposed to the same cost's as a captain. So it's not an expence or duty pay at all its just another way of topping up your monthly salary!

So now the HMRC are on to us it looks like we are going to see the end of this tax free part of our wages. SHAME BUT IT WAS AND IS A TAX DODGE AND ITS GOING TO END.

Erm, the government spends it wisely? Forgive me but I think I need to go and shoot myself.

In our company we get a measely 1.90 GBP per duty hour. No crew meals, no nothing! this is to cover our lack of crew meals and lackof subsistance on night stops ( you know, where you have to eat out because you can't cook for yourself at home).

We are then taxed at 10% on this. Good job we don't have to eat healthily to keep our medicals in our chosen profession!

Hey ape I think a reduction in your duty pay might help with the waistline LOL.

But I digress, duty pay is subsistance pay by another name. Why the hell should it be taxed ?

The problem now is that we all may end up being taxed at 40% for this money instead of the 10%ish figure we pay now. So for an fo just over the 40% threshold (recently reduced at the last budget) paying a type bond and maybe even loans for training that the bastrd chancellor G Brown saw fit to stop tax relief on vocational training in his first budget, may find that ends cannot be met.

A Darling was in staff search a few weeks ago, wanted to kick him in the cahonas but didn't think it a good job move.
