tips for aircraft crew

i always thought tips would be sneered at by pilots and cabin crew,no idea why just believed that they were always extremely well paid!and wouldnt appreciate the gesture.
however after lurking on this forum my eyes have been opened into the aviation world so next time i fly,i will certainly handover a brown enelope of cash.
when i receive gifts as a nurse it doesnt make me do my job any better but does make us feel appreciated.
in fact if every pax gave a fiver ?average pax number 200,it would give a nice extra for taking us to the skies into what to me is a magical world as o level physics still cant make me understand the forces that keep me and the big metal thing stay up!

Brown envelopes filled with cash always welcome - especially in the world of lo-cost

Only once in fifteen years....
Saying goodbye to the pax as they disembarked in Gibraltar, a chap thrust a £50 note into my hand and just said to buy all the cabin crew a drink as they had been so good to him during the flight.
No mention about us in the front though; no-one ever tips the pilot!
Happy days in GB...sorely missed!

On a previous airline the cabin crew were regularly given tips by well-heeled pax.

Sadly they rarely shared it with the impoverished FD crew

Some time ago, as I was sitting on reserve, the call comes from flt ops...
Special charter to CDG, at 3am.
Arriving at my L1011, I find the 30-odd passengers on board, aircraft already fueled, and after checks, we started and departed.
5 hours later, we land at CDG and all pax disembarked.
Off to hotac we went.
At about 6pm, a knock on my door.
A smartly dressed guy hands me the brown envelope.
Inside was $10K and a hand written note...'thank you very much for a superb flight'.
The Kings youngest sister was very generous....and she would absolutely not fly on anything other than the companies TriStars.

She had very good taste, without a doubt.

Maybe the managers were trying to discourage tipping by taking caps away from our uniforms?

Good Lord, I had no idea the flightdeck moved at 500 MPH. I was too busy enjoying the company of Prince Charles, Princess Anne and the equestrian team from the Montreal Olympics. Some fascinating people from all walks of life. The Bee Gees returning from Australia. Dozens of fascinating kids and their families. So many wonderful pasengers that it would take a day running through my log book to remember them all. If I had known I was going so fast I would have locked the flight deck door and stayed on the outside. The First Officer can cope with the speed.
