American Eagle in JFK
I have an upcoming interview with AE. They are giving choice of base, so if I get hired I was thinking picking JFK. However, I heard a rumor that JFK was forcing out all planes with 50 seats or left, to be enforced soon. Is this true?

GUarag: if it's anything like AA, you are LGA based and expected to service all 3 NY airports, if you are junior (as you will be as a new joiner). So expect middle of the night calls to get your a$$ to Newark from Kew Gardens, etc. When you become a line holder you can bid JFK trips. No idea how senior they are in AE, but in AA they're pretty high up there.
Enjoy.
PS...this post will probably get moved to N. America forum or T&C...

This is an action that LGA/ORD/SFO, etc...SHOULD DO ASAP.
Congestion can be reduced, and a corresponding increase in capacity, IF carriers were FORCED to upgage their equipment size.

Since when did the bases change? There is no crew base at JFK or any flying that originates at JFK.
DFW-EMJ, CRJ, SF340
LAX- EMJ, SF340
MIA- ATR
SJU- ATR
BOS- EMJ
ORD- EMJ, CRJ
LGA- EMJ
Also with the scope clause once divested AE will no longer be able to fly hub to hub which will mean the closure of BOS and or LGA.

I've already talked to a couple AE pilots who have mentioned JFK. And I've also seen threads in other forums mention it.
Anyways, what about LGA? Anyone know of AE's future there?

American Eagle
Eagle had a JFK base about 5-6 years ago. All the flying was moved to LGA.
Reports are that AMR wants to be done with Eagle by the end of the year.

Dude, stay away from Eagle. They are about to be sold off and you will never upgrade. One of my best friends has 4 yrs seniority there and has no chance of upgrading anytime soon. There is a very senior captain presents that has made Eagle there home.
Go to Colgan or PSA if you want to fly the east coast. Colgan is hiring street CA's on all its props and I heard PSA is about to hire CRJ street CA's this summer. I take it you are a low timer if considering Eagle. The other places I mention are hiring if you have a pulse and will upgrade you at ATP mins.

So do you feel that United should fill an A320 or 757 on flights between ORD-SBN, ORD-FWA, ORD-BMI??? RJ's are needed to searve these smaller cities just a hop skip and jump away from these busy hubs you mention.
However, routes like ORD-SAT dont need to be flown by an RJ. Those should be flown by mainline aircraft. Yes there would be a reduction in congestion and an increase in capacity if routes like this where not flown by RJs

I have 900 hours, 120 multi. I chose Eagle because they offer choice of base. I already did the interview and they called me today to set up a training date, and I told them I'd call them back.
Why are the other regionals so much better? in my case, I don't care about the upgrade time, as I don't intend to be there for long. I have other plans with the future.
I hear the best three regionals are SkyWest, Eagle, and Chautauqua. My three friends who work at Eagle love it. My two friends who work at Chautauqua love it too. So yeah...

All the regionals are about to be in trouble. The mothership Skywest isnt hiring... Heard some rumors of a few small Brazillia classes, but thats it.
Republic (CHQ) is still hiring and plans on hiring 600 more this year. I think their luck will change in a few years, but I would go there if I was just starting out and a quick upgrade isnt important. The socalled 2 yr upgrade there will not exist for you if you get hired there now... But its probably the best choice. Plus, you meet their mins. Go there instead!
Also, you can never bet on the future of aviation. Your plans after Eagle may not be around... So just go where you can see youself hanging out for a while just incase...

Who said my plans for the future involve flying for a living?
Other than Eagle getting sold off, which does not really concern me much, and the upgrade time which might be moot regardless of where I go, what are the reasons Republic is the place to go?
I'm actually considering them, since a friend vouched for them. But then I'd have to postpone my Eagle training date, so I wanna have a good reason to justify it.

Guaraguao,
If Eagle being sold doesnt bother you, if upgrade doesnt matter and LGA (not JFK) is a home base for you, then maybe Eagle is your place?
I have a good grasp on the regionals and have friends everywhere. I did get out of the regionals for a reason... My friends at Eagle mainly dislike it because of the poor upgrade time and the unstable future that lies ahead... Also as a jr pilot, you will be on researve for quite a while hating life... I did 1 year at my old company and my one buddy did 2 years of it a Eagle. Its brutal at a regional! Although at Eagle, LGA may have less of a reserve time than ORD...
I have actually worked for Republic while in college as a ramper. They are a great company (for airline standards). My friends there like the growth which equals less time on reserve and failry the quick upgrades as of recent and the stability. However, the downside to Republic is that they have a ton of odd bases and have a hisotry of changing them...
For the guy that wants to make a career out of the airlines, Republic is the choice. However, if you want to fly out of your home town and not make it a career, then go to Eagle and dont postpone you class date. Good luck and have fun flying that ERJ around the east coast! Ive done my fair share of it on the CRJ and its a blast, especially in the winter time!

Thanks for the advice man. I'm actually considering interviewing with Republic. If they are giving choice of base, then I might just postpone my Eagle class for that.

Im pretty sure you have to bid on your base while in training. No firm choice! It also depends what certificate you get put on as they have 3. Republic, Chatauqua, and Shuttle America. Check out ailrinepilotcentral.com. I think they have a current list of bases for each certificate?
