Question KAL Screening question

how is it possible that KAL takes a DECDR on a B777 with 100 hours on type but other than that "only" ATR turboprop hours?? ( no offence to tuboprop pilots, a lot of us flew them as well..)

and other pilots with B777 rating only but solid jet experience (B737) do not even get a chance to attend the selection?

is it a matter of through which agency you try or how does that work?

thanks for info.

If that's indeed true, then I will definitely avoid KAL B777 like plague. I heard of various near disasters...KTM near CFIT, NAN near CFIT etc; just too many and scary to contemplate.

KAL pre employment selection

1 ) KAL does not hire direct; so go through some recruitment agencies.
2 ) Recruitment agencies and KAL will vet through your application.
If successful, the agency you engaged will notify you, and an authorisation will be to you given for an EY ticket, upgradable on a subload basis to BC, to SEL ( ICN airport ).
3 ) Accommodation at your expense ( to be reimbursed later if you are
successfully selected at pre-employment check) at Hyatt Regency
Incheon Airport. Per diem for stay during this period will paid to you later if you are successful at pre-employment check.
4 ) You are then scheduled for sim pre-check ( pre-employment check )
by Korean sim instrucors. The check is now fairly easy ( sim prechecks
prior to year 2000 were horrible torture sessions! ) Probably a LOFT
session followed by a full proficiency check.
5 ) If you clear the sim pre-check, then it will be a medical check. It's an
exhaustive session but not as bad as before year 2000. Be prepared for
a stress ECG, EEG, visual field, eye pressure, audiogram, cholesterol level,
sonargram, etc.
6 ) Then you are sheduled for an interview. Simple get to know you stuff
with KAL flight admin staff, chief pilot, the expat adviser to the line
ops and probably some expat audit captain.
7 ) You go home and wait for word from your recruitment agency.
8 ) If successful, again travel to SEL/ICN. You may need to do another medical check if your current one on your present licence that you hold is near expiry. You then go for an induction briefing.
9 ) You next go for an induction course in Korean culture, etc.
10) You will be sheduled for a short CBT, air law class with an exam by
the KMOCT ( Korean Ministry of Contruction and Transportation ),
CRM course and finally simulator sessions. These are all predicated
on the premise that you are type-rated .
11) As you are type-rated, your CBT, CRM, sim sessions are all deemed
as Re-Qualification Training. Possibly 4 sim sessions with a final check
by an Alteon checker.
12) After passing the sim PC ride, you will probably be scheduled to go
home for the monthly days off to sort out employment visa application
at a Korean Embassy at your home country.
13) On obtaining your Korean employment visa, the KAL Flight Admin will
process your crew card, etc. Next will be your line training, dubbed
OE ( operational Experience ) training. As this is a Re-Qualification,
you will be given between 4 to 6 legs before final line checks. You will
need to do study of airports on their AV ( audio-visual ) Training
facilities before your OE training. Likewise PRM AV training needs to
be done ( also you might have covered PRM training in your sim
sessions ).
14) Once you clear final line checks, you are almost through all the hoops.
Final line check involves a ride with a KAL DLCP ( designated Line
Check Pilot ) with a KMOCT checker. The KAL checker will act as your
copilot and the KMOCT check sits like Captain Kirk on the jump seat!

Good Luck!

Question

thank you very much for your info and time taken, marsh outlaus.

i just wonder how ( when they vet the applications ) a pilot with though 100 hours on B777 but other than that "only" ATR turboprob experience gets preference over B777 rated pilots with a lot of jet experience..

or in other words: do 100 hours B777 worth more than 3000 plus jet-command and B777 rating?

can now anyone please enlighten me, how such a selection of KAL is possible?
you know, if they have an intake of experienced guys with 500 PLUS hours on type, jet experience etc... then i have no problem to give way and await my turn...

but a guy with barely 100 hours on type but other than that almost no jet experience gets the job...... sorry but i dont understand...

anyone there from KAL who can help??

thanks and best regs

How long does the process take between arriving and the end of the pre-employ check?

questions...

I guess, people still wonder if the airlines want people with experience or people that get along, and fit in....and to get the latter, just how low they will go...
