Sri Lankan info

Barney,

Try South Asia and the Far East forum... you might have better luck.. have a fire extinguisher ready too theres alot of guys in there that will shoot Sri Lankan airlines reputation down.

My advise take it with a pinch of salt some true some not, like most things on pprune.

I got off a flight just a few weeks ago was talking with flight crew, they told me the airlines looking for pilots. There are also opportunities for quick command... but again remember this is an asian country so its who you know not what that gets you moving up the pecking order... possibilities to fly A320 (though limited with hours for new non rated FOs) quick progression to A330 and A340 possible.

New airline in the country Mihin Air flying A320s coupled with lots of experienced pilots leaving for bigger airlines eg Qatar/Etihad/Emirates/Singapore etc with better pay packets, means SL is need of rated airbus pilots.

Hopefully new deal with Emirates to be renewed but not totally sure whats going on with that.

Again from speaking to the crew rumor has it they are thinking of buying airbus aircraft to bulk up the fleet, but iv heard that story for a few years.

Sri Lanka itself is a nice place to live, great beaches, locals very friendly and great if your bringing £/$ you get a better deal. Only trouble is the growing tension in the area with the LTTE situation. To the south its no problem only up in the north but if your a pilot and working at the international airport you wont have any reason to go up north!

But hey if they trust the England cricket team to be there then i know its fine!

If your taking family there then schools are not a problem lots of international schools and foreigners... everything in the country is in english ie road signs/food/ etc and everyone understands and can speak it... which is a major plus!

Hope this helps with your current situation... Good luck and remember that fire extinguisher.
