Longest rostered duty

Why is there no 371 limit to total duty following a flight duty, even when positioning on the same aircraft such as on a jumpseat? I find it takes a very long time to recover from ultra-long duties and fatigue is a problem with a number of them on a roster. Equal rest periods are not enough to fully recover before a new duty (lost nights sleep, etc) which can also be a late to early.

ROStered duties increased from 16 to 24 hours, and now close to 30 hours rostered duty time, albeit largely positioning.
