Post Improving economy?...so long!

Now that carriers are offering FO contracts well below industry standard, what will happen when passenger confidence returns and pilot recruitment becomes what it was before.

I can see many a men causing problems for these carriers as they take their type rating and experience elsewhere as soon as things pick up again.

Isn’t this what management types refer to as a free market when it is in their interest and serves their purposes? Bummer when the beancounters cause the golden goose to be malnourished and the free market works against them. Even makes one desire a union contract to alleviate the ebb and flow of of it all.

Gimme a seniority number and a shot at the left seat.

All of this "conjecture" that the economy....and the salaries of flight crew will get better....well guys, NOT likely in the short to mid-term. Count your blessings that you have a job....at all.
And "unions"....well just look at the good they have done at CX, for example. Shot in the foot comes to mind.

I'm very aware that companies need to make a profit, but where do you draw the line. Charging people in order to have them glance through your CV is scandalous and sheer exploitation of the current situation. At this rate crews will be paying certain airlines to fly their planes and then have to thank them for the privilege! <img src="rolleyes.gif" border="0">

Regional flyer,

Germania in germany used to charge for line-training...

Honestly, companies like Ryanair make me wanna throw up. Ours is a serious profession, having people pay for their CV is inacceptable.

Yes, I am a union guy, which does not prevent me from acknowledging economic realities.
however, aviation is a business which has to be conducted with the necessary seriousness.
Unfortunatelly, the beancounters are about to lose the necessary respect and try to force their views on a business which can not abide by them !

Flying is basically dangerous (try gravity)and to make aviation a safe business, requires large amounts of cash, which will always prevent airlines to generate big investment returns in the long term.

I hope we won't have to learn this the hard way.
