Hired then Fired
With so few airlines recruiting these days it is no wonder the applications keep pouring in, wherever there is the slightest glimpse of work.
Qatar is no exception, the place itself was described by Lonely Planet as the most boring place on earth, however it is safe to live and you can achieve a reasonable lifestyle.
Work wise, provided that you don't dare suggest the chief wears a uniform to one of the sly power crazed undisciplined locals you should keep your job. (There are relatively few bad locals thank goodness, but the secret handshake has enourmous power beyond that measurable in the west.)
Your performance is measured according to the mood of the chief and by the number of glorifications you put into your begging letter for your job back.
Something many of us westerners have problems with.
That said the flying was good. The new management team is headed by David Fleming who is doing a good job considering his hands are tied.

Goat 2 Hell - did you fly for Qatar Airways? What aircraft did you fly?

Goat,
Everyone that has ever worked in that region knows that ability has only a small part in check rides. One carrier, I won't mention Saudia by name, but in my opinion, would hire ex BA Capts just so they could run them thru the mill, tear down their confidence then fire them. A senior flight instructor from Gulf Air could not get thru the initial check ride at Air Lanka, it was attitude. In the middle east, you really need to kiss a--.
