hello...

what are the total hours requirment to upgrade to capt in these or any other airline in the europe that are working under the JAA rules.

BA: hours not a factor as upgrades are based on senority

Ryanair....3000 total plus at last one full winter season in the company on the RHS.

As above, but must own Oakley wrap-rounds, have the ability to grow a goatee, and use hair gel.
Also be able to say during the upgrade process.. "Yus Sir! whatever terms and conditions you care to inflict on me are just grand!"

In BA, seniority does determine the command timing, however, it is not factual to say that hours do not come into the equation, it is just that they are unlikely to be limiting (unless you are someone like a certain co-pilot who took the company to court with BALPA's assistance over part time working).

BA time to command. Before the retirement age went up it was 8y shorthaul, 13y 777 and 15y 747. Now it could be as bad as 10y more, but since all will not work 10y longer and there will be expansion through monre longhaul aircraft requiring more crew, I think it is reasonable to expect 10-12y shorthaul, 15-20y longhaul. Gloomy, ain't it ?
