AIR ATLANTA f/o's leaving by....
AAI is loosing more f/o by the day that they can replace.
Even new hires quit before finish linetraining!
WHY?
Is it the money/bigger planes/command/?
or simply a social life?
Would the company save money by keeping the pilots for a longer time?

AAI is a horrible place to work. When I was furloughed I took the job at Air Atlanta rather than drive a limo. I almost quit during training because they absolutely do not care about you in terms of being a real person. When I headed to London for the initial training I had no idea when I would get back home to see my family. Can you imagine? Aside for signing up for the military and fighting a war I can't think of another place where once you join you have no idea when you'll return home. For the next 18 months (I know, if it was so terrible, why didn't I quit before then?) the only way I could go back to see my family was to tell them I was hopping on a plane and going home. If you request "vacation" they'll delay for up to a month citing short staffing, advising them you are taking vacation is the only way. Oh yes, you don't get paid when you take "vacation". The time between heading home averaged about 2 months. Up to the last time I told them I was going home they always had a place for me to go to as they are ALWAYS short staffed. The last time they pulled a fast one and gave me only Oran, Algeria as a base. "No thank you" I said, and that's when I returned to the limo job.
One gentleman quit during the initial training, 3 more within 6 months and 4 more within a year. When I finally didn't return to the job after my time at home 18 months after taking the job there were 2 left of the initial class of 14 pilots. I had always thought that if they treated the pilots better, including recognizing the fact they are actual human beings with families, then they would cut the turnover rate down. But they don't so they continue to hemorage pilots. They really can't be that stuped, what with close to 75% turnover annually. The only thing I can figure is that it must be cheaper continually hiring new pilots rather than treat well the ones that are already onboard.
Take the job at your own risk. It's a horrible place to work.

Air Atlanta is an awful place to work
I agree with the above post. I got a feeling of desolation flying for them that I have never experienced anywhere else.
The only pilots that this life could possibly be bearable for, are those who have no home to go back to. I met one or two like this, whose private lives after a few divorces were even worse than being with Atlanta.
Air Atlanta is a stain on Iceland, and the Icelandic pilots I have flown with in other airlines are quietly ashamed of it.

AAI forgot this one very important fact. Apart from the A/C their personal are their greatest asset.
Now their policy is coming home to roost.
They thought they could get away with it, as they weren't expecting a pilot shortage.

Thay are conducting at Aeroservices in Miami on the 4th.
FAA Atp holders would be able to work at Air atlanta if they pay for their type rating for about 12000 USD.
I was offered an "interview" and thought about the opportunity to go back to europe and then I said thamx but no thanx

OK
Cathay Pacific has taken quite a few, Oasis some from the -400, Iceland Air, Air Iceland. A few went back to SAS, Martinair, KLM, Skyways, Ocean Air and some came from Ocean. One Captain went to Dubai Air Wing with a F/E in tow. Atleast 3 Captains and a few F/O´s are with some 767 operation out of UK, not to forget Excel that took a load of people. Some went to Dragon and Netjets seem to be the biggest collector of ex AAI crews particularly when it comes to Nordics.
AAI is the largest training house and pushes some quality people on the market that many companies are happy to grab. Why. Worldwide experience with no support. Hard to come by people with that experience in their early 30´s.
Hope this helps

I have found that the quality people Ive met from ex AAI were indeed quality people. Qualities they had before joining AAI. AAI had nothing to do with it.
camel,
RE Your first sentence. No it isnt. All the patter, all the swagger couple of thousand hrs later moaning about command when they havent eve mastered the basic skills of landing.

I too flew with some great pilots at Air Atlanta. As well, there were some Captains who had no business in the cockpit. Air Atlanta had far more than their equal share of these types.
