converting 737 200 to Ng

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what training to do to convert or do a 737 ng type rating if you have hunderds of hours on the 737 200. I was shocked to discover that jaa describes the 737 300-900 and 737 200 as two different aircrafts.

Your discovery was correct. They're considered different types, so a full type rating course is required under JAR.

Its a shame but I am sure if you have hundereds of hours on that it should look better on your cv than say seneca or kingair as it is jet hours. Even with easy or ryan for thier sstr.

The -200 and the-300/-900 are indeed totally different animals. Once upon a time a company I worked for was talking about a 2-3 day differences course from -200 to -300. In retrospect that would have been a nightmare.

It depends. If you are rated on the 737-200 SP177 you can do an abreviated rating (3-4 days sim plus ground school) the SP177 has the 300 style dual autopilot and auto throttle etc. If however you are only rated on the SP77 (manual everything) then you can either upgrade to the 177 then the NG or do a full type rating. Both will give you 300-900. The problem is finding a suitable 737-200 sim.

N.W. Some companies - e.g. RYR - have an abbreviated 200-NG differences course. This might be because they have the same/similar SOP's. Either way it is a local CAA approval. What is available for an individual might depend on which authority your licence is under.

T.P. Your licence carries all type ratings 3-900, but the airline you fly for will require a differences course which will include an LPC. This is common sense, but not a CAA jurisdiction. If you have access to a private B733/4 & a B737/8then you will be able to flit about to your as you see fit.

It may have been a while ago, but I added 300-900 to my 200 rating. It most definitely was not a full conversion! Whilst it's a different 'stamp' in your licence, it was a 'differences' course. Or that's how I would describe it.

How can it be a totally different type rating when you are allowed (if qualified) to fly both types. I remember well the times I would fly -200, -300,and -400 on the same day, I wouldn't be surprised if others have done the same!

Still do it here everyday!
Some 200's with the SP 77, one ex-BA one with SP 177 and then a couple of 300's with glass.
first 73 was the 400, then back to the 200, a couple of years ago back to the 300. I've been converted so often I don't know what to believe anymore!
Yet still; pull back on the stick and the houses get smaller, push forward and they get bigger!
