PartTime Working

My UK airline currently operates a 50% contract. I can't afford such a paycut but need to spend more time with my young family. Are they legally obliged to offer 75/25 if requested. I believe other companies are starting to offer similar working patterns. Any information, or pointers to working time legislation would be appreciated.

Make a choice

Children are more important by far than your career - oops sorry I am not supposed to say that am I? But I happen to believe it. My wife stopped working whilst our son was in his early formative years and we still believe it is the right thing to do. Be fair why should a company pander to the whims and desires of it's employees? Either you want the job or you don't. Since when did the 'monkey' make the rules? I thought that was the 'organ grinders prerogative'?
Yea call me a dinasoar, old fashioned and out of touch if you like but sometimes the old fashioned way is best.

part time

Hi, unfortunately I can not give you any info on legislation in the UK reg. part time work. But I have pretty much the same problem as you with the difference that the company I work for does not offer any part time contract! I hope they soon will....

They are obliged to 'consider' part time working requests. But the fact they already offer a 50% roster would probably be taken as a fair consideration, so my guess is you'll just have to keep asking nicely.

does anyone know if the law is going to change such that if you request part time work they have to give it. aside from that i need to either go part time in the near future or even take a year off (serious progressive medical disorder within the family). might be next year or year after, anyone any knowledge. also bonded and dont want to have to pay back- see brackets above!
