Southampton Jobs
I fancy a change, I am sick of driving up to Heathrow and I would like to work out of my local airport.
What is happening at British European? I hear they are getting more jets, the E 195 and 737s. When are these coming and are they going to be based at SOU?
I have read loads of not so good things on these pages about British European and I have to ask how happy is the ship at SOU?
FYI I'm a medium jet Captain with about 4000 hours.

And unless you happen to be rated on the E195, you have no hope of going directly on to the jet at Flybe. Best you would get would be direct entry captain on the Q400! Sorry ... Oh and probably not at SOU as well as it is too popular for internal base transfers!

Thanks AC. Do you know when the E195 are coming, where they're basing them and is British European getting the 737 as it claims on PPJN?
Does anyone know much about Club 328. I have heard a little about them, not much good.

Hello mate.
4 E195's are due to join us in SOU in early 2007. The 737's are on damp lease from Astraeus and are going back at the end of the summer. SOU is popular but with lots leaving you may be in for a chance at being based at SOU. This also means you may have a chance of getting on the E195. People are leaving because the conditions aren't that great here; you work just as hard as the boys at RYR and EZY but have fewer days off, less pay and a useless type rating.
That aside everyone is a great laugh here and very sociable. Oh and FYI the company officially changed it's name from Jersey European Airways (UK) Ltd. t/a British European to Flybe Ltd. at the beginning of December.
Hope this helps. T=

Tri ...
I assume you mean that Sam Sam might get on to the E195 after his position on the seniority list entitles him to do so ... not sure the company recruiting direct entry people on to the E195 would please too too many people!!

Thank you for the replies and for increasing my knowledge. Aviation is a funny game, everytime you move you end up the tea boy again. I suppose loyality is rewarded with a seniority list at least.
Am not not type rated on the E195 but, is anyone? Are the 195s going to replace the 146s?
SOU is a great little airport with hundred of thousands of people living with an hour drive, surely the routes are going to expand. I have heard in the local press that they are trying to extend the runway. Anyone know if this was/is sucessful? I sure some low costs may be interested, anyone have any gen on this?

Sam Sam,
Don't see how they can extend the runway, one end of it there is the M27, and the other end of it their is an active railway depot. No, no one is rated on the E195 ... well maybe some JetBlue guys because I think the 190/195 is a common type rating.
As for other low cost airlines ... I think Air Berlin bring in a 737 from time to time but thats about it and it must be performance limited due to the runway length ... think Flybe said that they could never operate the 737 from SOU. The other low cost airlines are at Bournemouth ... think that is served by Thomsonfly, Ryanair, Easyjet to Geneva ...

I think the plan was to develop the railway yards to the North of the field. SOU is a pretty short field and there can be problems in the wet even though it is grooved.
We'll see what happens in the future. I'm in no rush to move, I would just like to reduce my commute and improve my quality of life.
Anyone know much about Club 328?

No common rating on the E195 just yet as it is (to the best of my knowledge) still undergoing certification, but the E170/175/190 have all been approved as a common rating so it is reasonable to assume the 195 will soon join them.
Flybe as good a place as any to be, though some will never be convinced, but SOU a very popular base and it is difficult to get into on the fleet & seat of your choice.
