who are Muslims or they come from a muslim countries in Asia

Who knows? But from a friend who worked in the pilot recruitment applications section, I know that a certain airline much closer to home had an unofficial - but nevertheless executed - policy of politely rejecting at the initial-contact stage anyone with a Middle East name.

Yes, I can blame them! The world is a f...ed up enough place these days by extremists and politicians, without airlines or other companies throwing oil onto the fire... Any kind of racism and discrimination will be repaid in kind someday, and it's just wrong. I'm not muslim, but i find it repugnant that anybody should be refused on grounds of race, religion or anything else apart from competence.

This is somthing I am very afraid of when i enter the aviation industry. I am Irish and am christian but have a middle-eastern name and I am worried that it will jeopardise my chances of getting a job. I am only 15 so hopefully the world will have changed in the next 10 or so years because I have my sights on flying for an airline like BA which could be doubtful with my name

If you saw the TV coverage of the Gate Gourmet strike, and the BA ground staff working in the terminal, you could be forgiven for thinking that a muslim name was obligatory to work in BA or an associated company.Don't know about Irish though, especially Cork, too many Langers, just joking, really!

You cheeky young man! If there is one place where there is no discrimination by name or any other means, it is BA. There are numerous Indian, Arabic, even Dutch names. If you can prove yourself and show your experience is satisfactory, you will have as good a chance as anybody of getting in. Don't start using your name as an excuse for not getting what you want! You will only be kidding yourself.

I am in total agreement with you both, you have both stated very much what I wanted to say.

World would be a better place without ignorance and racist remarks. Unfortunately there will always be one.

All i am saying is that with so much terrorism going on lately and people blowing themselves up, as well as others, people are bound to be more cautious.

I am not racist at all, but I feel a lot of people would possibly feel less comfortable if the crew were all from the Middle East opposed to an English crew.

Not Pollitically correct. Not saying this is right, but its just how it is.

If anyone feels les comfortable on my flight, they may get off and walk. Fine with me.

Like I said, they can get off and walk.

I got a feeling this thread will be deleted very soon. Not because of the topic but because of " some " of the replies.

Pilot from the Mid East.

Should be able to say what I feel, I am not being nasty in anyway. Just saying how i feel and how others feel, but feel they cant say nowadays.

And I feel the thread shouldnt be deleted just because you disagree!

fhmfhm..etc

You speak all you want mate. I wholeheartedly agree you must have the right to say what you think. And, by the way, I am quite convinced you are not a 'racist' etc. Even if you are in my book you are totally entitled to say your opinion. I am always interested to hear other people's points of view even if they are diametrically opposed to my own (not to say yours are by the way!).

My experience of 'free speech' is that most people thing it is the most marvellous thing in the world until someone disagrees radically with your views - then of course you are a communist, nazi, homophobe, racist, pervert, terrorist, furry animal hater or whatever. Your views should be banned for all eternity until they are fully sanitised and of course in total agreement with the principles of free speech!

All you guys out there who do not want to hear what someone else has to say about Islam, Christianity, the Labour Party, Save the Unemployed Handicapped Lesbian Whales or whatever the particular deal at the moment is just have to get over it. These are big issues and there are many differing views on all of them. Not everyone has your take on the world or indeed mine for that matter. If something offensive is said, you have to win the argument and not the ranting competition. Here endeth the lesson........

Idiot or ignorant. I don’t know which.

You can feel what you want I don’t care. It was beer talking on my last post.

People from the middle east have many many differing religions including the more common Christian, Jewish and Muslims. Your family name is handed down. Its not a choice. One may have a Muslim name but be a practicing Christian. I am but who cares. Not many in the flying profession.

Ignorance my friend! Well come to think of it your not a friend and probably wont be.

To the original post. YOU WILL come across ignorance and views as expressed by our worldly and well educated friend from Romford but don’t let that stop you. It may be hard at first but once your in you will only be judged by your performance.

Unfortunately times have changed.
