What Would You Do
I am working for one of the top uk charter firms but have just been offered a job with the worlds favourite airline. The problem is that although my job is not perfect (no such thing anyway) it is probably as good as it gets and I am happy with my lot.
Always fancied a bit more long haul and BA will give me that but I am early forties and would therefore probably never get a command before retiring, longer commute to work, bottom of the seniority list ect ect. Trying to way up the good and bad points here.
Should I stay or should I go, is BA all its cracked up to be. Any BA peoples opinion would be gratefully recieved.

Inclined to say stay where you are given your age, many years at the bottom of the list likely and that fact that you are already with a great carrier. What fleet were you offered at BA? I certainly wouldn't consider a move if I were offered short haul and in your position...

It's a no brainer!! Stay where you are.
BA is not what it used to be. What can they give you that one of the top Charter Airlines can't??
You have passed the selection and thats what counts. Well done you but don't take it.
If they offer you a golden handshake of £30,000 then maybe.

Congrats on the offer but it does open a can of worms.
BA at present is great for a late 20's DEP. Looks like turbulence ahead and I don't think it's going to be a very enjoyable atmosphere for much longer.
DEPs basically are going to have to sit under the table eating the crumbs for a long while while those above eat cake and expect you to support them in keeping it.
Charter pilots enjoy a modicum of prestige at work. Managers cabin crew and ground staff at BA don't think this way.
On the plus side BA offers good pay (poor pension), excellent training, good fleets and routes. The best place to be is Gatwick but that will mean 737 which won't suit you.
With a 777 rating the World is your oyster. BA clearly don't care about retention any more.
