------------------------------------------------------------

atmosphere at EK: many pilots happy, and more unhappy (dont know why) hehe !

French: not very common, but English is widely spoken.

Rosterting: got much better recently. average 100 hrs in 330/340.

living in Dubai: its modern, stylish very live at night, so many

things u can do. but u have to bear the HEAT! high 45C during august.

Salam

Dizo,
Good luck with the interview. Best advice is just be yourself, and play nice with the other fellas during the process. You will be part of a group, and do a whole bunch of group activities. They just want to see you get along with others really. Try to have a good time while doing it all. There is a lot of info on this site re the whole process..so a search will help.
I think we have a dozen or so Pilots who are French. There are quite a few French Cabin crew.
Quite a few Pilots are commuting between Dubai and other countries where their families are living. This can be difficult, as flights during most of the year can be full, and rosters make getting enough time off to get home a hard thing to achieve. But it can and is being done. Things change pretty quickly over here. I think commuting is harder now than what is was a year or so ago, what it will be like in the future I would not like to guess. There are soo many factors which will effect how it goes (what fleet you are on, how many hours you fly per month, which destination you want to commute to etc) that the results will differ greatly between those who do it.
Good luck.

Hello Dizo !

I wish you good luck for Emirates !

There was a very interested article on " Flight International " magazine 21-27 June, page 97 , HR briefing-Emirates , and seems that the great expanction is expected next years . For copilots , the upgrade could be 3-4 years !

Dubai is a very cosmopolitan place , a lot of new buildings, there things that nobody believes that exists in the world , but they are in Dubai, like the PALMS Island's, the WORLD archipelago , and the greatest shopping center of thet world with more than 400 shoops and a snow sky ride. CAn you imagine yourself in August with 50 C teeling to your european friends that you will go for sky ?

Monney does all we want , thats the idea that the country transmits .

Emirates has about 20 or 21 crew living buildings , most of them are situated in main avenue SHEYK ZAYED Road , with nice conditions. There are nice bars around.

As most of crews are foreigners , since " KIWIS" ( New Zealand ), " VIKINGS " ( Scandinavia ) and etc... people call each other to have dinner or have a drink , go out at night and then make the " after party " , because bars close at 2 a.m. so they go for a drink in the apartments. Anyway because of security , it is only permited to the residents in their respective buildings after 1 a.m .

I just now that cabin crew shares the apartments , 3 rooms . Cockpit crew has an individual appartment ! If i'm not correct please tell me .

Give news about the interview !

Good luck

Dizo,
Both the above posts are crap so please disregard them. The HR dude refered to is a Kiwi. And pilots are taken from all over the place.
Good luck.

BA Commands

I have heard that BA DEC's will be available to any current BA F/O with at least 15 years' seniority and the ability to pass a command course.

But that's just a rumour...

Ola Trancada,

You obviously dont work for emirates. Bit hard to dispense lifestyle advice then. Nao achas?

Loads of people happy. Some not so happy. People upgrading today have been here 3 years and a bit. All one can do is guess about the future.

Dizo, If your wife doesnt want to come, dont come. Better bring her here, for her to see it and then make a qualified decission.

People are not leaving in the hundreds. Over the last 2 months 1% have resigned. That is acceptable in any work place. We are just not used to it.

Dubai is what you make of it. Benetton Airlines for better or for worse.

Cool

Er,Payscale since when was 35 from 1200 1%?

Check the figures on the portal, over the last 4 months admittedly but whilst not hundreds its a significant rise from virtually zero in the 12 yrs Ive been here.

Either way bring your wife and make your own decision for the pair of you there are plenty of French people and it is very cosmopolitan.Good luck.

Quad,

14 in the last 2 months is 1%. The using my super computer that is 0,5% per month.

You mention 35 over 4 months...isn't that about the same?

Whichever way you turn is, it is not much. No drama.

Quod. Where did you get 35 from, is that in print somewhere?

behind_the_second_midland. What in the hell are you talking about? We will hire pilots from any country if they are qualified. And just for the record there was a ban on hiring f/o's from Oz for nearly 2 years. There were getting to be too many from there and EK wanted to get a better mix.

trancada. Ek does not have any buildings, it is all leased. Only single and no children married couples get into the high rises on Sk Zayed, all others go into villa's which are scattered throughout the city.

Dizo. Bottom line, if the wife does not want to come then do not come! This job is not worth seperation from the family. Bring her for the interview and let her see what it is like. Summer is hot, but I still hav a tee time in the morning. The money is ok but not great. the schedule is ok but not great, the upgrade situation is ok but not great, depending on the fleet you are on. The work rules change often and there is nothing you can do about it. There are some great people to fly with and some are not so great. Dubai is a pretty good place to live, but it also has it's problems. In other words: FLYING FOR EK IS LIKE FLYING ANYWHERE ELSE! It has it's good points and bad points. It is what you make of it. Simple as that.

Come to the interview with your wife and make your own choice, but at least check it out. Remember "wife happy, you are happy".

As don says, some pilots commute but it is very hard to do. Some of them see the family every 2-3 months because of the roster and the flights being full. I personally would not plan on it.
