Post By destroying unions, companies are destroying themselves.

What a great idea it seemed at first - destroy the very thing that keeps pilots together...the union!
Destroy their union, and isolate the individuals, and then intimidate them.

Well, seems like after all this time, it isn't working too well after all

At least when the pilots were in one single group, they were more easily controlled, and one could almost certainly guarantee that the majority of them would stick around in the hope that their "union" would be able to negotiate something better, "Next time round".

Now though, it's a case of an ever increasing migratory workforce, leaving for greener pastures whenever THEY feel like it, because of their sense of despair.

After all, what's the point of hanging around somewhere where you're obviously NOT wanted.
There are HEAPS of opportunities abounding, and even MORE coming up for those willing to move around.

As much as unions might have SEEMED to have been protecting the employees' conditions, they also ASSURED the employer of a stable, known workforce.

This is NOT a reply to the Ryan Air thread!!

A grim story indeed. Unfortunately, this is what human being do. They build up a great ediface. Then, when it looks shaky, they make some changes for the short term. These soon become permanent and the process of destruction has begun.

Each subsequent change and 'improvement' works from a base that is not secure. Eventually, the whole company collapses. The people in charge at the moment of collapse are rarely the ones truly responsible but they will get most of the blame.

This is the same for publc and private companies, as much as for governments and whole countries. The route is well known: Small country/company .. Big country/company .. Empire .. Ruins.

Hmmm, well the so called 'union' didn't do the HK49'ers much good, now did it?

A common tactic for companies is to 'devide and conquer'...and this won't change anytime soon.

Can ALPO save Delta? Certainly not. Only Delta can save Delta, by severely reducing expenditures...including flight crew salaries..a lot.
And even this might not be enough, in the end.
USAIR is doomed.
UAL, maybe likewise, we'll see.

In the climate of today, flight crew unions have virtually no say...and this may (or may not) be a good thing.
Depending.
Usually, union activity brings no 'good' to the company, and many times it doesn't serve the pilots it represents very well either.

In the end, it all comes down to this...
When you approached the company, you asked for work...Yes?
or No?

1DC may have a good point, as well.

I recently completed a short term contract for a small carrier.
These folks keep their aircraft in tip top shape, are buying a couple more, pay their guys on time (and for the short term contracts, big time bucks involved), and generally have a successful operation...that is profitable, believe it or not.

So, it can be done.
All it takes is a little common sense...on both sides of the fence.

Sadly, in many companies, this is not the case.
Common sense has long been thrown out the window.

As usual, 411A's sphincter is doing the talking. The HKAOA has helped the 49'ers significantly and when all is said and done, I will take great delight in watching the pompous Arizonan eat his 37.5 litre hat.

Back to your rocking chair old fella.

Capt U,

Treated them so well that a whole 37% of the membership voted to reject the "Deal" that the 49ers themselves rejested 48/1.

Well from someone that is 14 years away from the rocking chair!
All though the thought scares me.
Crew members have to learn to stick together.
Union or not.
Every time we stick our neck out and break the standards we create a new set of standards.
All in the hopes that we will help our company.
Before long we have no standards at all.
Too many of us fall into this trap.
We only have our selves to blame.
Until we learn this our industry will continue to fall.

I would say that you work for the AA and Eagle lot then.

Have a friend at Eagle who describes it exactly the way you do.
