Interview Air Atlanta Europe @ LGW

Hello guys,

In a few weeks I have an interview in LGW with Air Icelandic Europe for the 767.
Does anyone know what I can Expect?

Thanks!!

At the moment Air Atlanta invited a lot of people for an interview. I heard that it is not a very difficult session but I do not know how many people they need. From my former company at least 10 people are invited. Good luck.

Do the search Air Atlanta,
Meets requirements for yourself then go.
Caution to the weak and wannabees.
Experienced crew know better, pays low just for starters.
Problems arise your crew leasing agent, no help.
Do the search, if no job good deal, if you have job shame on you!

Can someone detail how AAE is "supposedly" better than AAI? I have heard so many negatives about AAI and the seriously cr@p pay I'd love to know how AAE is an improvement.... What sorts of routes would you fly? Is it contract flying for someone else or will AAE have its own IT runs? Do you need to be typed on the 757/767?

Cheers

AAE/AAI

I'm sure this has been written before but just in case;
AAE = UK based(MAN or LGW) permanent, salaried pay(£42K F/O,£65KCapt)flight pay £2.10/hr flying duty.£150 for working in a day off.You pay tax,get a Mickey Mouse pension and 5weeks(or there abouts) leave /year.AAE fly almost exclusively on behalf of Excel Airways.Routes at the moment are the usual shorthaul IT work, and longhaul to Goa Mombasa,Tabago,St kitts Barbados,Grenada, and Calgary.YYC finishes soon and MBA and GOI are also rumoured to be going because of poor performance. Some talk of Cuban destinations coming up.
AAI = you are a contractor, based anywhere the work is,payed by the day from leaving your home till you get back home(they pay the air fares from home to base at the beginning and end).No pay for leave or sickness or if they don't need you. There is some summer work flying Excel IT routes from the UK.There is a contract based in Algeria.Contracts come and go..recently there have been bases in Argentina,Paris,New York and the Dominican Republic. There is no flight pay. They provide accommodation,a taxi to the airport and a free breakfast. It is somewhere around $250/day for a captain,$190/day for an F/O,with a modest annual payrise. If you do more than 75 hours in a calendar month, you get $100/hour as a captain and $75(I think as an F/O).All this is paid to wherever you want from some island bank in the Pacific.Tax is between you and the confessional.AAI pay is not written in stone. There are small variations between bases on the 747 for example.
AAI fly for Excel during the summer,There is a contract out of Oran,Algeria .and there may still be one from Paris to Gabon.Hadjjing is an annual possibility.

Both AAI and AAE have their drawbacks. If you live on mainland Europe with a wife and kids,AAE will not help you get home on cheap flights(staff rebate travel is non existent).Rosters are chaotic(but getting better) and are not given in enough time to get the really cheap deals on the LCCs.The max number of days off in a row is three..and that is only by request at least a month before. You also have to rent a place near LGW or MAN..plus have a car to get to work. This inability to get home has caused many from mainland Europe to leave.

AAI is better from the accommodation point of view..and they provide a taxi to and from work. You might not be in a hotel..they might put you into a flat. But then they can,and often do,suddenly require you to up sticks and go to another base..or better still, you can get your next roster with nothing on it..ie they don't need you.
There is a feeling that the Icelandics are loosing interest in the 767/757 and they are putting all their effort into the 747 work. But it is just a feeling..management is very distant personally and geographically in AAI and can be somewhat cool.Trying to second guess the system is what most contractors spend their idle hours doing(usually in a bar).Rumours are king!
AAE are looking for type rated pilots but are less interested in your total hours. At the moment there are only command prospects in AAE..but that could change, and even then, commands only come slowly(there were a couple a year ago).
Notwithstanding all the above...if you have a sense of humour, its great fun.
There might be some inaccuracies in the above..but it is pretty close.'an good luck.
BTW For AAE you need a JAR licence and the right to work in the UK.You are able to fly British and Icelandic registered planes. If you work for AAI you need any old licence,FAA,Oz,Canadian,Congolese. You get an Icelandic validation which allows you to fly only Icelandic registered planes.

A question for you guys and gals at AAE or AAI,
What are the entry requirements for FO?
I know the company website says 500TT...
But what kind of experience do the new FO's have?

Does 1500TT and the bare type rating get you in, or do you have to have time on type?
The reason I’m asking is because I’m considering doing a type……
Any tips or advice would be appreciated.
