Anyone knows about pilot vacancies with Libyan Arab Airlines since they announced that they are gonna upgrade the fleet?

As far as I know it's Afriqiah that has announced it's ambitious expansion plans, to acquire up to 9 aircraft over the next few years, so if you really want to work in the Jamaherija, you should try them also. They presently lease ther aircraft through Nouvelair of Tunisia, but that contract is up for renewal this summer.

The Libyan govt wants to invest USD1.5 Billion to upgrade the fleet of Libyan Arab Airlines. I know about Afriqiya but not interested in them.

So, what you wanna know??
That every year from nov to march the streets in Tripoli are flooded (or gone!!) and electricity is as common as the bars serving alcohol in Tripoli
Or that when meeting a Libyan crew in the hotel in Bengahzi (spelling prob wrong, sorry) they were talking about $ 500 /month??

Like I said, not my cup of tea!! However, I'm not judgeing anybody here.....just talking from my experience....

Good luck anyway!!

CP,

Housing and living expenses in Libya are extremely low, even compared to other North African contries, so naturally Libyan crews are paid less than foreign aircrew. It is still not enough, though - plenty of room for improvement.

The flodded streets I have seen in Libya have been in no worse condition than the streets I have seen in Italy or any other med contry. Electricity can be a real problem, but you can buy a reliable generator for less than 100 usd.

If you are based in Tripoli, you have a 5hr drive to Zarzis (7hr to Djerba), where you can get a drink if you like. Mind you, its Tunesian, so you'll probably be better off without.... I for one will never drink those blasted "celtic" again. Pheow.

As I don't speak much Arabic and I don't have many hrs, I doubt that they would hire me, but just for the adventure, I'd love to fly for them.
