BA 777 - 3 crew ops

Just a quick question, as a junior FO on this fleet how many 3 or 4 crew ops do you do and how many of the flights are 3 or 4 crew ?

cheers

As a junior FO, none....

Ok, you may get the odd one or two. I'm at the top of the bottom half of the list (you know what I mean) and I seem to get about two a month on average. As the credit is generally higher, these are the trips which will be picked up first at Stage 2 more often than not. The odd one may slip down the list onto Blind Lines, but don't expect too many. The three crew trips are PEK (which you won't see), ISB, CCU, DAC, HRE, LUN (when it's not on the 767), CCS (losing that in Feb), BGI (as a 3 day trip), ATL (likewise, although see below), KIN, IAH, DFW, DEN.

As I'm sure you're well aware, the 777 is becoming the modern Classic with more and more East Coast trips, so unless there's a change to the "big picture", the number of three crew trips certainly won't increase. As things stand, the company is re-scheduling some flights (ATL for example) in order to try to remove the third pilot - failing the schedule regularity test in this case, so it ain't going to happen. They're also trying this with certain -400 trips too, so we're not alone.

4 crew ops - well there's GRU/GIG/EZE, except that went to the -400 last month (with 3 pilots, 'cos they cruise at .86 not .84). There's a rumour going around of us getting the EZE direct back at some point (4 crew) but I'll believe it when I see it.

Hope that helps.

humanfactor, out of interest, what is the bidding like for a f/o to HRE. Is it relatively at the bottom of the list of desirables?

No jet lag, 3 crew, cheap, good golf. You decide.
