It's all relative. It's about whether you're married with kids and need to spend time at home, or whether you're in love with a china doll at TPE or HKG; or whether you like being based in the land of charm and smiles. It's about whether you're comfortable with being based in the magic kingdom at JED for the Hadj, and whether you're comfortable operating into Iraq. In many ways it's more about quality of life issues that complement one's overall preferences rather than just cold cash. You can make USD12000 per month operating into OSM and into BGW, but you can also get shot at or get your head chopped off. One thing's for sure: You'll be living out of your suitcase for weeks rather than days, no matter what contract you're on.

Best 747 Contract
Glueball is absolutly right. I'm on what I think is the best 747 contract out there right now. Europe based, $13,000+ a month with 13-15 days off a month at home. There is no perfect job out there so establish your priorities and go for the best you can get. BTW, there are openings for 10 more 747-400 Captains.
