Vietnam air Interview

Going to Vietnam Air for an interview. Wondering if anyone can shed any light on working conditions/living in Vietnam. Also...Vietnam vs. Gulf area.

Thanks.

Vietnam:

Ho Chi Minh City: Dirty, noisy, very little to do on your very few base days off, millions of motorbikes, hot, very wet at the moment, cheap, quite a few good restaurants, 30 years behind Bankok, deffo a place for a single man only.

Vietnam Airlines:

Appalling rostering. Stby's, days off, available days, rostered duties, it all means nothing. You work 6 weeks on 2 weeks off, they will call you at anytime in the 6 weeks.

There are vietnamese and there are foreigners. There is no forgetting that you are the guests. The locals get all the japan trips, of which there are quite a lot, because of the allowances. The Russians and the locals get Moscow (on 777 soon anyway) Frankfurt. If you are on the 767, you will spend nearly all your time in South Korea Incheon, and the rest of the time in Hanoi airport waiting around bored as ****

On the plus side, MEL and SYD are going back on the 767 I believe. But of course this is all definitely, maybe subject to change. Nobody really has a clue what's going on.

The hotels they put you in are by and large crap, with one or two exceptions. You also get very little goodies at these hotels, eg breakfast.

The routes on the 767 include, ICN, PUS,TPE,FUK,NRT,KIX,HAN,DAD,FRA,DME,(MEL,SYD),.

Nearly all international flying is done as a deep night flight.

Hope all this helps. It is a developing communist asian country, which has a long way to go. Some guys love it, others hate it. It's very subjective.

Cheers

Mr G F

P.S Abu Dhabi is more civilized but look at the GF traveller routes!!!

... and from the view of a bus driver in SGN, it's absolute the same only different destinations, but the same !!!! concerning rostering and of course the changes to your roster.

It will get more difficult in the future to get home even during the two weeks off, as the planes ecspecially to CDG are heavily booked and on two occasions pilots were denied boarding even with a confirmed ticket.

There is no improvement in sight and with the continued expansion I am sure there wont be any improvement in the future. I think it will get worse.
