Foreign Pilots at Lufthansa
I'm just wondering if there are many foreign pilots at Lufthansa or indeed any other German carrier and where they are from. I do believe that you have to speak German fluently when joining these airlines but don't know what the setup is with contractors, so anyone being able to shed light on this would be much appreciated.

Just know that a lot of ex-Swissair pilots joined Lufthansa, as they have a high-standard background and were all type-rated on A320. Of course, they do speak fluently german... :-)

We also have a lot of Dutch guys. They didnīt speak german that fluently in the beginning, but as the languages are quite similar, it didnīt take so long.. (but they are eager to maintain that dutch accent, because our girls in Germany go crazy for that!)
Then a couple of years ago we had a lot of Spanish collegues, but they all returned to Iberia after a while (pay wasnīt good enough)..
And I think 10 to 15 years ago there were a lot of British pilots working on the 737 fleet (right side)..
I guess a 6 months crash course in german wouldnīt be a bad idea.

I can only speak for LH.
Iīm sorry to say, that I havenīt flown with (or know of) either Irish nor British colleages in our company..
If you are interested in an employment, check out the Lufthansa.com page (should be Careers>Pilots)
Not to discourage you, but the student pilot graduates waiting list of our Lufthansa Pilots School in Bremen (north Germany) is very long.

No I'm very happy where I am thanks! It's just that on a flight last week I had a little discussion with my colleague who tried to get into LH but they didn't take him because he spoke no German. I just wondered what the situation was with Irish/British there and if there were any in the company.
