MD80 cabin altitude & press controller

HOw does the MD controller know when the A/C is returning to the dep.field and not landing in the dest field??

On the '73, it was you had not reached the cruising level set on the press contoller:ugh:

It's part of the descent checklist.......or non-normal / single engine approach checklist if you needed to divert after TO.
