Usage of V/B on a 737

Hey guys,

one more time: IŽd love to understand the basics of the V/B and FPA on the descend page on the fmc.Does anybody use this tool often in descend? And I heard that you can fly easy an visual approach with that tool, how does it work?

Thanks

There is a good description in Bill Bulfer's FMC Guide, aailable for purchase here:
http://www.oshkoshpilotshop.com/PAGES/fmc_guides.htm
It is only one page in the guide so, if you can, borrow a copy.
If you want a good guide to the B737 you can't go past buying it. Very readable.
Cheers

Never! Absolutely useless in my experience.

I respectfully disagree with Paolo de Angelis. It is a wonderful tool, use it almost every descent. Many uses for it. Bill Bulfer's book describes how to use it to its full potential.

i took an mcc course with a major airline and they had me flying visual pattern using full f\d both vertical and lateral, It works great in the sim (visual only, basically a computer) but I wouldn't call it visual flying lots of chit chat due to f\d sop and lot of head down time close to the gnd, I have doubts.
I used Fpa on other types and works great for Par, night approach or non precision; nonetheless in the last two cases it's my opinion that only ht\dist calls will save you in case anything happens.
Give it a try may work for you.
Cheers
