LVP:effect of failed or downgraded eqpt. on approaches
hi,what is the effect of standby power for approach lights for CAT1 & CAT2 approache minima?
|
For Cat 1/2 no effect but Cat 3 not allowed
|
Depends on the Company LVP , but in general, Approach Lights are not required to work for a Cat3 approach. Reason of course is that on a Cat 3, you will not even see any approach lights as DA is for a Cat 3A over the threshold.
Approach lights ARE required for Cat2 approaches, fully operational. |
EU-OPS: unserviceability of standby power for app lights has no effect on landing minima.
|
Makes sense. Lights go off, standby power source does not kick in, you go around if visual reference lost. Unlucky, but safe enough. No need nor benefit in mandating a minima increase.
|
Light go off, you go around |
16024,
Not in ours it doesn't. If not mentioned on the charts, then normal cat1 minima apply for approach lights inop or on sby. Don't restrict yourselves when not necessary... As I said before, if the RWY is Cat3 equipped, you can do a CAT3 as no approach light system is necessary for such approach. |
16024:
EASA Acceptable Means of Compliance (AMC) and Guidance Material (GM) to Part-SPA AMC7 SPA.LVO.100 Low visibility operations EFFECT ON LANDING MINIMA OF TEMPORARILY FAILED OR DOWNGRADED EQUIPMENT
My mind was focused on the LVP part, yours probably on the CAT I, hence the discord. Take care. :) |
I believe there is some confusion with
Standby power Inop for approach lights and Approach lights inop. |
Flight Detent:
I agree 100% with your edit of post #5! Despegue: normal cat1 minima apply for approach lights inop http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/...01:0238:EN:PDF On page 75 there's a table, and for NALS your cat1 DH remains at 200' but your required rvr is 1200m. I agree that it is a bit confusing unless we are clear whether we are talking about standby power failure or complete loss of lighting. |
The question was re the effect of unserviceable standby power for Cat 1 and Cat 2 Procedures wasn't it?
Using EASA regs the answer is simple and as follows; Cat 3 and Cat 2. No effect. Cat 2 OTS and CAT 1. Minima as for NALS. OR, Did the OP mean having to operate using SBY Power for the ALS? In which case; Cat 3B No DH. No Effect Cat 3B with DH and Cat 3A. Not allowed for DH above 50 feet. Cat 2. Not Allowed Cat 2 OTS and Cat 1. Minima as for NALS |
