B-737 mid term storage

Hello guys,

Any suggestions for 737NG engine covering during mid term storage (1-2 weeks). We recently had very expansive bearing failure on one of our CFM 56. Management want us to cover engines all the times when ground time is more than 10 hours. We only have intake covers. Looking for something to also cover core and bypass exhaust.

I saw recently something similar on LH MD-11īs stored in FRA.

Can you give me some hints.

Look here under Section 2 Plugs & Protection.
  • BYPASS & EXHAUST PLUGS, folding donut ring type, 600-900 models (NG / NexGen), Short Exhaust Nozzle mod (set of 6) $3,690
  • EXHAUST NOZZLE CAPS (specify inside diameter) (set of 2) $100

Sky job

thanks for the helpful link.

Have seen them here in our dusty area, but even when installed not fully helpful.
Have done a compressor wash on an AC parked for 2 month with the same covers and it came out like mud...990 ppm. Took us 4 cycles to bring it down to 220 ppm.

Simply use marine "Shrink Wrap", after placing a few bags of a good de- humidity crystals inside, costs about $50 per engine, I have picked up a DC9 after three years in a very gritty/dusty place and had no crap whatsoever inside the wrap. Use heavy duty wrap and if its going to be in long term storage use two layers, its a good idea to write a note on the wrap to remove desicant bags before starting the engine, dont ask how I know this!

Exhaust plugs

We use on or BBJ this Boeing 737 Engine exhaust covers with intake covers (one of those huge socks)
Even laziest captains volunteer to install them rather than to help stewardess with cabin cleaning.

We have currently thanks covering avoided few times hot air de-icing so money are back.

Bean counters are happy

Thank you

Thank you very much guys. We have ordered initialy two sets from that EU company. Should arrive next week. We will see how it works. Still have 9 more engines with same bearing.

Thanks again for hints
