RDR-4000 Honeywell IntuVue 3D Weather Radar

Anyone care to share operational techniques, likes, dislikes of this new weather radar?

Crap outside 80nm. Far too many returns that are not filtered out beyond that range.
Best set one display to WX-A and one to a particular level slice (Cruise Alt -2000' seems to work)

Bit disappointed with it to be honest.

Any chance you can post the POH for the the RDR 4000?

I guess Im wondering if this radar has the logic to mix Auto Calibrate and Max gain when at altitude to provide a secondary weather pattern (shaded hash marks in the diagram below) to distinguish between the main moisture content of the CB and high altitude ice crystals denoting the convective build up at higher altitudes? Just wondering...

What works for me is for the PF to have WX-M set at 4000ft-5000ft below crz alt and PM on WX-A. If it doesn't paint at 4000' slice below you, you're quite safe in being able to fly over the stuff.

I'm a fan of this radar compared to the RDR-4B on some of our other birds. But there can be gotchas too, if you have a very intense cell within about 30-45degrees of your track, it tends to mask returns on anything that may be lurking behind it. But i suppose this could be true of any radar seeing as to how it's just the nature of how the RF from the radar is reflected.
