Dear Mr Boeing

After changing types from the Airbus and being on your 777 for a little while now. I have this to say , you have spent millions of dollars in building a great machine and about 1$ building what has to be the worst seat I have ever had the displeasure of sitting in. Enough for me to overlook all the other brilliant engineering , especially when the daily back ache is there as a surly reminder.

PLease Please get it right on the 787 !!!! I will be happy if you could spend perhaps 2$ on it , and so will many of my colleauges.

ps John Deere is a tractor, 777 is a long haul airplane.

fourgolds

I know where you're coming from.

Though not on the 777, or a real Boeing for that matter, the driver's seats in the Douglas-Boeing 717 are the worst I've sat in in an aeroplane, and most of my sectors are only about 1:40! :{

I gather that the pilots' seat is a customer option. Sounds like you should be blaming your company for buying the cheapest.

Donīt think so. I have flown many a 757/767 originating from different fleets. Basic difference: electrical or manual moving. Newer acft (and I guess the 777) have a different material in the padding but still the same seats.
However I stand to be corrected.

They're purposely designed like that to stop you from  ...dozing off! :hmm:

It's all very well stopping the head from dozing off, how does one stop one's tail ?

My Boeing experience is limited to 757/767 but I remember when a capt's seat broke and had to be replaced we were told that it had cost as much as a good model BMW.

I found they were tolerably comfortable when the cushions were new but unfortunately the company had no routine for replacing them other than on a major check.

I suggest you make a tech log entry for replacement.

As an interim try swapping the cushion for the one from the jump seat though you may find someone else has thought of it first!

You guys have never sit in a turboprop or other regional aircraft. You are sooo spoilt! No emoticon for this statement.

VORDME2 20th Sep 2008 18:45

fourgolds,I agree 200% with you and they could have aswell spent some $$ for a good sunscreen system.I don't know yet the 777 but I will discover it very soon:cool:

VOR_DME 20th Sep 2008 21:10

Apparently the wife of the guy who designed them was having an affair with a pilot...

SNS3Guppy 20th Sep 2008 21:32

Seats in the 747 are comfortable.

I had to laugh a few weeks ago. The FE was getting out of his seat at the end of a trip, and went to reposition the seat electrically. I heard a snap and he let out a yell. I'm not sure what wire he found or how he found it, but he got zapped. Eight hours of peaceful rest from A to B, then shocked back to wakefulness by his own chair.

Funny, the older seats seem to be better, the 727 seemed just right, although the old MD80 seats were almost the worst I have experienced (worst being the Saab 340)

757 not too bad, 767 too bloody hard.

relax.jet 21st Sep 2008 08:15

I can just agree

I fly 737, the sectors are not too long but long enough to let you feel the DISCOMFORT of Boeing seats. I can imagine they are able to design better. Why the  they didn't? :bored:

Does the manufacturer ever canvass the flight crews for seat comfort?

Is cabin ergonomics ever reviewed on a 'regular' basis?

Do the purchasers ever tell the manufacturer that the comfort is marginal at best?

Worst seat D0-228,closely followed by 737. Best seat tie tween twotter and Queen Air.

Obviously I have been lucky, 757/767-300/747-400, all lovely seats so it must have a lot to do with customer choice in the first place and like I said, I have been lucky! They all had the sheep skin wrap around which makes a real difference.

fourgolds 22nd Sep 2008 11:36

Assuming it is a customer choice , to allow the " bottom of the range" chair to be so poorly designed is still inexcusable. Give me an airbus chair anyday( and that was the same when I flew it for different companies and on differing types). By the way I do like the rest of the 777 immensely.

I,m off to get some morphene to help me get through my trip tonight !

galdian 22nd Sep 2008 14:44

Sounds like the pilots seats in an Airbus are pretty darned good - well done Airbus! :ok:

Just a pity the rest of the aircraft is Euro-trash.

Sorry but "going Boeing" is still the mantra for the "discerning, sophisticated, dashing" aviation professional.

I know because I is one. ;)
