RB211 engine maintenance

Hi. I am currently doing a university project on the incident that affected G-BNLG on 20/2/2005 where number 2 engine surged on climbout. One of the reasons for this was excessive wear of the birdmouth feature which joins the HPC and IPC casings. I was just wondering if anyone knows how maintenance crews cehck this feature for wear, and if they are aware of any regulation changes following this incident.

Thank for reading,
